EVO-3d Call quality

Got mine today and I am not sure if it is just sprint, but I doubt it, but I am definitely hearing static on my end. I have called several people and I hear the static, they say I sound perfect on their end though.

It isn't horrible but I definitely notice it. We just took my wife's shift in, she wanted the 3d after seeing mine, so I will test hers and see if I just got a dud or what. Maybe it will get better.

Edit, so hers seems to be the same way. Like I said it isn't horrible but I notice it.

Is no one else experiencing this? It isn't a deal breaker to me, love the phone too much.

I'm in MN and I must say, the call quality is nothing to write home about. I have full bars of both 3G and 4G, and regardless of whether I have 4G on or not I've expeienced some issues with call quality.

It's not outright poor, but as others have stated, the calls tend to be somewhat choppy and people on the other end can sound garbled or muffled at times. Even when I place a call, the ring tone while it's ringing I can ear this cut in and out and it sounds choppy, same thing when I talk to someone.

At this point it isn't something I'm saying I'll return the phone over, but definitely is something that I hope HTC and Sprint can look into and perhaps issue a software fix for, provided it can be improved by software patch of some sort.

im in los angeles but depends where i am.. and the volume on mine is that that high. the instinct had a little more volume.. but thats with me..

This is my experience to a T. I'm also hoping a software update can resolve the muffling / choppiness.

So far I've had excellent call reception when I've got 4-5 bars. Actually, the 3D sounds clearer than my 4G. Also, the speakerphone sounds great.

The phone calls I've made on my 3VO have been clearer than any other device that I remember, including dumb phones. I believe my wife can actually hear me better now, than on my Pre, so that's always a plus! Works fine via bluetooth in my car (Ford Sync), and sounds good, though I had to turn off all sound enhancements for MP3s to sound decent in the car. But phone calls seem much more clear than on my Pre.

I've been on the phone with my EVO3D probably 3 hours over the past two days. Everyone has remarked I sound clear and loud. Also, on my end the speaker is loud and I can hear it well. I haven't had any issues with low signal or a bad reception at all. Really loving it!

Sent from my HTC EVO 3D

The call quality is inconsistent. Sometimes clear sometimes choppy. This is my second smart phone, first android. Compared to my other phone phones the sound is really not that great, all warmth is lost and sexy phone voices are a thing of the past. Sometimes it is merely a test of comprehension on both sides as it sounds like a bad connection or others it could be both sides are haveing a battle of noise cancellation... or so it would seem. I have been told it is very clear, Clear and unnatural, or ecoed by some. Also, For some reason when I talk on my left ear people do not hear me so well as on the right.

My call quality is great. Much better than EVO 4G or my Palm Pre actually. The problem is have is before someone picks up on the EVO 3D and its dialing. The volume goes way up and way down... It's crackling... And then someone answers it sounds great and consistent. Anyone else experience this? Charlotte, NC

You guys who are having such good luck with the 3D should go out and buy some lottery tickets while the luck is holding out. My 3rd 3D is going back today. It's the worst one yet. Not only can people not hear me on this one, but it will not take a charge and will not turn on. Last night, 24 hours after I got this third one, I tried to plug in the charger for overnight and could not get the amber charging light to come on. I tried to turn the phone on to check it out and it would not come on either. Don't ry to tell me to take the back cover off and make sure the little rubber tip is lined up with the power switch, because it is. I even tried to turn it on using the tip of a ball point pen. NOTHING! Now, I am without a phone until 1:00PM today when I can go back to the Sprint store. This time I'm going to solve the problem once and for all. I'm going to revert back to the 4G.

Maybe some of you folks are having good luck with it, but I can honestly tell you it has been nothing but a nightmare since I bought my first one on June 24th. Since cell phones came on the market, this is the first time I have been without one due to inferior products.

Lemons happen and we're sorry that this one didn't work out for you.

I've responded to your basically identical post in another thread.

I get you're frustrated, but please keep the cross-posting down.

I am truly sorry about the cross posting. I guess I was simply using the forum to vent this morning, after last night's ordeal with the 3rd 3D. I can honestly say that no piece of technology has ever frustrated me as much as the 3D did. I did take it back at 1:00pm today (when they opened). The techs looked at it and came back and told me it had a bad battery and a bad power switch. He said the switch came from poor assembly technique. I didn't ask any questions, I just said this time I want a 4G. I got it and it is working like a charm. I made four test phone calls and everyone said I haven't sounded that loud and clear on a cell phone in a month. So I am now a happy camper again. Once again, I am sorry about using the forum to vent. At my age, I need to keep my emotions in check.

No worries, I understand.

I used the Evo 4G for over a year - if yours serves you as mine did for me, you're in for quite a treat.

Best luck with your new Evo! :)

There was a thread somewhere (here??) that suggest the call issue with the evo3d had to do with a alignment of the microphone and cancellation microphone. On some units the hole for the microphone is too small and misaligned so the cancellation microphone picks up most of the noise and cancels it :) - A couple of folks said they fixed the issue by widening the hole above the microphone. Also the issue does not occur if you use speaker phone. - hope I'm not repeating something that was said on this forum; unsure where i saw the tidbit.

I would like to do a poll and ask E3d owners how their call quality is. I loved my e3d, but the call quality killed it for me, so now I want to know if I just had a bad phone. Hows your call quality?

it is hard for me to understand the other party, I didnt have a evo 4 but the quality on my old touch pro 2 was better..

I bought my 3D 2 weeks ago and everyone I talked to said I sounded like I was muffled or in a tunnel. Sprint repair condemned the phone and gave me a replacement on Saturday. I bought one for my wife that same Saturday and am now having problems with both phones. This is in Dallas and the problem is with both 3G and 4G. I called HTC and they could tell there was a problem but didn't know what to do about it except have me send both of them in. I haven't even had them 3 full days. I am very disappointed and really want them to work correctly. Both phones had full charge and no case and yes, we are talking into the right spot. Not too loud and not too quiet. Tried a PRL, system, and profile update. Tried turning off for 10 minutes and taking the battery out. Wish they had the call quality of my Instinct and all the other Samsung phones I've owned. Forums are filled with the same complaints as what I have. Does anyone know of any fixes for this before I return these for a refund?
