Help Poor Battery life?

Hello, on my new LG Optimus M battery life link of sucks. This is my first Android phone and I love the phone just need to know how to extend battery life. I am not using live wallpapers because I hear not using thing will increase battery life. And I am running AVG Antivirus Free on my phone. I do send allot of texted though and IM over the pre installed Google talk messenger but what else can I do for my battery life? Thanks for you're time and have a good day.

You say you use IM that uses data if you have low signal mobile data kills you're battery. Check out this free apparently called green power saver free battery saver. Its in the market I use it to manage mobile data it works great

Haha yeah after like 18 or so hours(Thats when I put it back on the charger) It's still around 30%

See I don't get that kind of battery life. But I do send about 100 texts per day so that might be my problem maybe. With my windows phone I had the battery lasted longer and the phone was not a touch screen but the phone kind of sucked lol. It okay I really love this phone anyway even with the battery life. But if anyone have any suggestions on how to make my battery last longer I will appreciate it.

P.S.

Thanks for everyone how have responded I appreciate it!!!!!! ;)

i usually put it on airplane mode or turn it off completely when i go to bed at night.
advance task killer from app store is also a great help!
try it.

I noticed that it just was because I send so many text messages a day. And I think the touch screen uses more power then my old phone because it just have the keyboard under the phones screen. But by far this is the best phone I have ever had LG and google (for making the Android OS) did a damn good job!

P.S.

I have decided to buy my mom an LG Optimus M in February for mothers day.

I usually talk about an hour on it so and send about 200-300 text a day. I don't use any task killer or anything. And I play music on it for about an hour a day.

Task killers are bad news bears, do some research. Basically, the Android OS is designed specifically to put processes in an idle state when they are not currently active on the screen. What this means is that while a processes may be listed as running (it is loaded into memory), it does NOT mean it's draining your battery (using your cpu to execute processes). In fact, it takes much more cpu power, and therefore battery power, to reload an app into memory than it does to let it idle as a background process (which uses virtually none.)

Hope this clarifies things a bit.

Thanks for the the information about not using tack killers I was going in the settings and force closing thing because I thought that it was save on the battery because I had to do that on my old windows phone. Since I know that it not using my battery I will not do this any more.

P.S.

This is why I love this forum there are so many negligible people and very nice I have learned allot about my new phone thanks to everyone in the forums!

What does "sucks" mean? It means your phone is dead in 2-3 hours?

My phone lasts whole day with excessive use and I usually have about 20% battery life at the end of the day. Here are my tips. Get those apps.

Quick settings:(Quick access to phone settings) disable what you currently don't need, like lets say GPS, wifi, background data. Turn down the brightness. I dont know about others but If i'm not out at the sun I can see screen well with it's set to 0% brightness.
Disable keybpard sounds and vibration as well.
Autokiller Memory Optimiser. Frees your memory. play with the settings.

If your phone is rooted.

SetCPU: I run it on "Ondemand" with 600/245

If i were you I would remove the antivirus. My bet is that's what eating your battery.

I highly doubt that pictures might contain any viruses. Also don't forget, you are not running Windows. Most viruses are aimed at Windows users. Most of the time people get infected because they are not careful. Uninstall the intivirus, see your battery life. If it improves, try some other antivirus, maybe it would use less resources.

There is no way to include a virus in MP3 or Video file, unless it has some other attachment. I'm not smarter than most of users on this board. I took couple of computer classes in college =)
