Poor call quality confirmed by HTC & VZW

The rev B setting adjustment does not fix the problem, unless you only stay in the small network areas that actually supports it. Per VZW tech, that is only about 20% to 30% of current towers- at best.

The other 70% to 80% of network areas will not work. Even the areas covered are sparse, since the towers are not all set up in those areas.

I Googled "tower b incredible" and the only thing related was this thread. Next time be a pal and insert a link. Not a hard thing to do.

I have good call quality - but the outgoing ringing is really choppy and blurbily sometimes.

Weird!

The day I got my phone I called my buddy and told him that I was calling from a new phone, he said "it sounds like an entirely new device, where are you that its so quiet (he knew i was on my way home from work"

I had my windows open doing 60+ on the highway...

No complaints about call quality from either end of the phone call here

Switch to tower B on settings. Google it if your unsure what this means. Made a Huge difference for me

If you are referring to "switching to EVRC-B from EVRC", that's not a "tower change" so much as it is an additional codec (low level/quality codec; sets bitrate at the 1/4 rate and previously missing under EVRC) added to the EVRC standard. Its a bridge between having the "lowest" quality audio setting (1/8th rate) and a "mid-level" audio (1/2 rate), when signal strength would otherwise be set at "lowest", even if a stronger signal was available.

It can be considered a "tower switch" because only certain towers in the US support the newer standard.

One also has to remember that everyone's perception of "good call quality" is going to vary.

True! I do know that I used Tmo for 8 years and my N-Gage, Dash and G1 did not have a call issue in regards to quality. The Droid on VZW I had for four weeks (late last year) did not either. Actually better than Tmo and G1.

For the Inc, no subjectivity to worry about when the calls go in and out and can sound like talking through a fan or under water ;) Objective- all the way.

My sound quality is horrible. Sometimes it is muffled, sometimes it cuts in and out and sometimes it is garbled. I have to ask people several times what they just said. It's truely unacceptable.

This isn't a "subject to personal opinion" problem for me. NOBODY could possibly say that the sound quality on my phone is ok. I'm calling verizon today too.

I am very worried that there is no way to fix this via software patch. If only some people are getting this issue, it sounds a lot like hardware problems to me.

I'm within my 30 days still, I am wondering if I should get a Droid X instead. It really sucks, because I love this phone. If it doesn't make acceptable phone calls, what is the point?

I say get out while you can. I would've in a minute if I hadn't been in the hospital twice during my 30 day return period. Now I'm on my second defective DInc and am very frustrated. Am hoping VZW can do something to help solve this once and for all...like a different phone.

What is your signal strength when you experience those issues (bars and dBm level)? Garbled, muffled, cuts in and out are usually symptoms of poor circuits/connections, and "should" only be experienced when in low/no signal areas (and/or a saturated tower). If you have a strong signal when this is happening, then yeah, there are phone hardware/software issues going on, if the problem calls happen despite calls to various endpoints (landlines, other cell phones/multiple carriers, voice mail, etc).

I'd try a different brand/model of phone and see if you have the same problems, when calling from the same locations.

My call quality was never bad, but sometimes when talking with people the volume would fluctuate wildly, going from mute to really loud for absolutely no reason. Ever since I turned off the privacy calling option I haven't had the same problem
