Poor quality loudspeaker?

[StuartTheFish]

Is it just my handset, or are all desire speakerphones poor? Is there any way of improving it? It was crystal clear and loud on the hero, but it's pretty much unusable on my desire! And yes, the volume is turned up to full!

I have the same problem, it's just not that great. The only thing I miss from my Nokia N96 is it's awesome stereo speakers...

A lot of users have complained that the speaker is a weak feature of the phone.

Ho hum. Any chance of It being something that can be fixed in software? Mp3's sound reasonable enough on loudspeaker, ringtones all sound spot on too, so is it just a software issue distorting the speech somehow? I can't imagine HTC making a good loudspeaker in the hero, then deliberately ditching it in favour of the kazoo that the desire seems to have.
