Root Poor Signal and Speeds

I have a triumph that is rooted and flashed with CM7. It seems like Im having problems with my signal. I am usually getting 1 bar at home, 2 if Im lucky. I downloaded the app OpenSignal and the last couple of days, it has connected to at least 3 towers within a mile of where Im at (according to this app), and still, I have not gotten more than two bars on my signal. My speeds according to this app are around 50mb. Am I suppose to be getting a stronger signal and faster downloads with these towers being close? In the OpenSignal app, it shows being connected to one of these towers but Ive noticed at times it will just change to a different tower. Is this normal??
Also, Ive noticed, When I make a phone call, it takes several minutes for the 3G to come back on (signal turns green), is it always suppose to do this??
Also, I inserted the build prop file (ro.product.rat=EvDo only) just above the the wifi file with ES Explorer. From what I gathered, this is supposed to keep me on 3G but it still goes to 1x quite often. Is there anything I can do, or am I doing something wrong? Thanks for the feedback..

There is no way you should be getting 50mb/s if thats what that app is telling you. 4g LTE doesn't even get that fast of speeds. Does your signal change when your'e not at home?

When I'm at work I get 1-2 bars and sometimes nothing at all. But when I go out into the city i get like 3-4. If your on 1x most of the time.. sounds like the "EvDo only" change didn't help at all.
 
Yes, when I travel around, the signal varies, sometimes 3 or 4 bars, then again, sometimes 1 or 2, depends where I am. And yes, I meant kbps, sorry. Should I be getting a stronger signal with these towers so close? And, Im assuming, the stronger the signal, the faster speed I will get. Is this correct in assuming this?? How can I get a stronger signal with these towers then?? Thanks for your feedback..

Your speed will vary from other factors (like network load) as well, so that wouldn't always be true. What is your signal strength in dbm, not bars?
 
Well, I have had worse data speeds with a better signal than that. Right now with -83 dbm I got 275kbps. But like I said a lot of it will be network load and not just your signal. Just to put it in perspective.

Even with a lower signal though, I don't have issues with phone calls.
