POP Email Set Up?

thehorv

Newbie
I have now tried setting up 3 different POP email accounts and am receiving a failed authentication message (using the default and manual entry options).

Has anyone had any luck setting up a POP account with this device? Two of the accounts are Yahoo based, not sure if I need to upgrade to their Mail Plus service to access POP.

The other is my work email which has an unverifiable security certificate (I need to manually verify I want to continue to this server in Outlook every time I open the app). This was not a problem for my old Blackberry, not sure if it will cause heartburn with the Droid?

Anyone have any comments or suggestion? Verizon is looking into this as well, but I trust YOU the people more for answers.

Thanks

I am being told by Verizon tech support that Yahoo mail is being blocked on Android due to the Google vs Yahoo kung fu fighting? Has anyone set up a Yahoo mail account on a Droid OS?

Got this from 13ryan77 in another thread... didn't know how to forward it since im new to the forum but it worked for me.

go to mail icon
add account
enter email address in email address filed (name@yahoo.com)
enter password at password field
select MANUAL SETUP not next
select imap
username= name@yahoo.com
password = yourpassword
imap server= imap.mail.yahoo.com
port=143
security=none
optional = blank
select next

you will then be prompted to sign in do so.

will then be taken to the smptp settings which only prompts (going form memory) you for address which is smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com. leave the port as is. then select next. sign in. name your account and that's it.

Very important, you must have WIFI disabled or this will not work.

I really want the below method to work for me to get my yahoo mail coming in but it doesn't.

does it have anything to do with my yahoo acct. being an sbcglobal acct?

go to mail icon
add account
enter email address in email address filed (name@yahoo.com)
enter password at password field
select MANUAL SETUP not next
select imap
username= name@yahoo.com
password = yourpassword
imap server= imap.mail.yahoo.com

optional = blank
select next

I doubt it. See the link above for incoming fixes for the phone (page 1). "Yahoo Email Accounts are not supported"...

Hopefully they will fix this in the Dec. 11th update...Though it doesn't mention which update the fix will be on (Dec 11, or Jan.)...

I have a sbcglobal.net account, here's what worked for me on the Droid Incredible:

Protocol: POP
Email Address: xxx@sbcglobal.net
Password: your password
Username: xxx@sbcglobal.net
POP: pop.att.yahoo.com
Server Port: 995
Security Type:Click on "SSL"
Outgoing smtp: smtp.sbcglobal.yahoo.com
Security Type: None
Server Port: 25

The last 2 fields I listed actually populated automatically and worked fine.

Here's a listing of many POP servers and their incoming server names:
Answer Center | AT&T

A list of outgoing SMTP Server Hosts:
ISP Outgoing SMTP Server Hosts - AOL, Cox, Comcast, SBC, AT&T, Adelphia, Roadrunner, Earthlink and Others - host45.com

Hope this helps.
