Help Pop up for K-9 Mail

I installed E-mail Notifier in order to get a popup on my phone whenever I get an e-mail. However, the popup doesn't bypass the lock screen. Is there anything I can do to get the popup to bypass the lock screen? Handcent allows you to do this for SMS popups, so I feel like it is in the realm of possibility. Any suggestions for how to do this in the e-mail context?
