Help POP3 Email Issues

I'm hoping you guys can help me with this, this may belong more in a different part of the forum but here goes.

I have an HTC EVO 4G - I have my yahoo, and gmail accts set up on it. Now these accounts sync like they should, so if I read an email on the phone or delete it it will go back to the main acct and reflect those changes, and vise versa from computer to the phone.

I also have my work email set up on my phone (POP3). When I read my email or delete it on my phone it will go back to the internet sit and reflect those changes. However, when I read it on the internet or delete it there, it will not reflect those changes on my phone.

To add to this, I have this work email set up via outlook on my computer, which does not reflect any changes from phone to outlook- or outlook to phone.

So my question is does anybody know how to help me make all these things sync so they reflect changes no matter what device or program I am reading and deleting email on? This has become a lot of work to keep them in sync.

Thanks for your help and let me know if you need more details I will give them if I know them.

Assuming you are using the stock email program, I don't think so. I'm assuming you are running Froyo (I think that server deletions were synced pre-Froyo).

Third party email readers do allow for this. I use K-9 and you can set it to sync server deletions. I believe that Maildroid allows this as well (though I haven't used Maildroid in quite a while).

See if you can have your work email setup via IMAP. POP3 mail gets pulled off of a server to each device. In POP3 setup you can choose to delete off of server or keep on server for other devices to be able to receive it. However changes made to one device i.e deletion are not shared across multiple devices. IMAP on the other hand keeps the messages on the mail server and all changes made happen across all devices set up IMAP i.e. phone, laptop, work PC, home PC. The benefits of IMAP are obvious but some mail servers have storage limits so POP3 becomes the better choice if you are keeping years worth of Emails.

To sum up if you are syncing mail across multiple devices and you want them all to be the same then go IMAP.

We do not have imap as an option. This company is way to big to change just for me. But active sync is coming but not for a few months. To be clear though. Thing do sync from my phone to the web just not the other way or with outlook at all.

Yes because in your setup you have it checked off to delete off of server when you delete from device. It is a device to server option but wouldn't then delete off of your Outlook. Again with Pop you are actually pulling the email to your local storage rather than seeing what is on the server. You will have to delete the emails off of every device you receive it on.

Ok, that was my basic understanding and that I would have to deal with it till they change it. Thanks for your help.
