Accessories portable back up battery

You know that feeling when you are in the middle of an important conversation and your battery dies.

Today I bought a thing that has an oridnary battery in it and you can plug the phone in for emergency use

It did not work guy said does not really work with smart phones

can anyone recomend one that will work with smart phone

EDIT - I know that recently on a trip to London, I saw something similar advertised on a bus!

No special adapters for the phone necessary, only standard USB to microUSB cable.

Got one of these myself, comes with the correct adapter for Desire HD. Not only can you use the phone while plugged in but it charges your phone at the same time, charges about the same speed as your home charger.
