Help Portable Hotspot problem

I try to set up my phone as a portable hotspot and I can get it to work (my data plan allows it).

However I cannot change the name or password, or set it to Open security.
The default settings are AndroidAP with a secure password. I can change the settings when I click 'Configure portable Wi-Fi hotspot' but it does not make a difference or seem to save.

I am running a rooted GS2 with Android 2.3.5 with Baseband KI2 and Kernel KI8

Any ideas how I can fix this? Should I flash a new kernel?

my samsung android hotspot has a password set, is there a default password to access it?

My android galaxy proclaim has a password on the hotspot, is there a default password to access it?

You are suppose to type a password and any other device that wants to connect to The S2's wifi hotspot is the one that needs to use that password for connection.
