Have you tried PdaNet? It doesn't require root and has worked on every device that I've tried, including BlackBerry years ago.

Does this help with anything noob here but radio shack gives the hard button to go to recovery screen

Locked out of a Kyocera Rise C5155 - Mobile Product Support Forums

i dont really understand locked bootloaded and not a android programer on any level but figured from what i read any advice might help on any skill level and i am good with windows based computers and some versions of ubuntu & zorion os which is a noob version of linux to look like windows based systems and feel /// now to get to the point also of editing maybe kyocera rise and virgin might not crack on bootloader info but ive seen comercials for radio shack that theyll offer support for the life of your phone just from buying from them maybe a radio shack geek can get the info you guys need from kyocera or virgin just a thought

That is NOT the rooting process for the Kyocera Hydro. Both the rooting processes for the Rise and the Hydro are identical. -_- What that is is something for the EVO 4G. If you do a google search for "PC36IMG", that's all that pops up.

I know this but a few forums that I have read said this worked for the bootloader, I have used root through recovery on my Rise and this has nothing to do with this I was mearly posting this because I have seen it in other sites saying that it worked so take it or leave it

Okay, I thought you were posting it as a root/bootloader guide for the Hydro. That link you posted is bogus, just FYI. Whoever created it just took a guide for the EVO, and swapped out the names of the phones. hboot is for HTC phones only, I do believe. On the Kyocera Rise anyway, if you type reboot bootloader, it doesn't do anything. I assume the same is for the Hydro.

here is one

Hey sorenlyulf!
Welcome to af!
It is true that this process does not work for the hydro. So I would not recommend it is tried by anyone. I just received my hydro, I will start testing on it to see what we can do, but unlocks for other manufacturers will not ever work for kyocera. Partition layouts are always different.
But thank you for spending the time looking for the info, and posting. Like I said any information could help.

So discussion closed on that, lets be productive and continue on our quest to unlock these two phones ;)

says this 3 times below

E:Cannot load volume /misc!

Mine says that in recovery too. I don't think it means anything. This handset is in good working order, the one I had before it was not in good working order and it also said that in recovery.

I don't think there is a /misc at all.

Wait, what exactly are you talking about? Were you trying that bootloader unlock?

was useing rom toolbox pro diffrent reboot options and some just reset phone & some take ya to that screen i figure if there was a way to get to that screen then there def must be a way to flash cwm recovery onto it

i wish i knew exactly what it did or processos to show what it does to go into that screen or record activity then i could upload a log report for you guys if you know of one that does that or u could do it yourselfs that are actually smart at hacking these things and have the info

also kyocera rise has these options for images dunno if there as crammed full of virgins crap or just the os but & since iam not really up to date on my android hacking i figure ill let u guys do that but heres the entire kyocera rise website image of the operating system maybe someone can browse through it on a laptop or a desktop and falsh what they need that way since theyll know better then me what there looking for

The recovery screen is easy to get to. While you phone is off, press and hold the Volume Down button and turn on the phone. This boots you into recovery. While your phone is on, not in recovery, you can issue "adb reboot recovery" from your computer or "reboot recovery" from terminal emulator on your phone.

The link you posted does not contain the operating system. It contains the source code to the kernel that the phone uses. I've built the kernel from source a few times, and at this point it does us no good until we can get the bootloader unlocked or CWM working.

It's just the stock recovery, you can get there by turning your phone on and holding vol- too. Sadly the stock recovery is pretty much useless.

i just got the hydro from ebay today, can someone confirm if the rise can go into bootloader?
adb reboot-bootloader just restarts the phone. recovery is exactly the same as the rise, so i think we can build this side by side.
i need the recovery or recovery.fstab from the phone if someone could pm me it.
so far i have been informed that this phone is running this bootloader:
(L)ittle (K)ernel based Android bootloader
this may be the direction we need to take to crack it open.
PLEASE REMEMBER TO NOT FLASH ANYTHING TO EITHER OF THESE PHONES, IT WILL BRICK YOUR DEVICE

I seem to be suffering from noobitis. I assume you want the recovery partition, but I can't for the life of me see anything in the PM page to attach any kind of file. In lieu of that I've just attached it to this reply, if that's no good grab it and nuke the attachment no problems.

edit:
I posted the results of boredom at that reddit link I posted in the main Rise section... partition information which may be useful.

edit 2: Stock recovery image was attached to this reply, look below for the kernel+ramdisk from it instead

is this the screen u get when u do power and vol down that says safe mode

Power and volume down while the phone is off will get it to recovery, you have to hold volume down.

Interestingly, holding power and volume down while the phone is running takes a screenshot. That's a neat trick.

Your post is removed.

It's the result of one or two people kanging an htcevohacks.com article.

If you haven't used a root technique, then don't post like you have, and don't say you found it on some forum, take it or leave it.

That's far from acceptable.

or recovery.fstab

Not sure how useful this info is but it can't hurt. It came from a recovery log I found in the cache partition:
