Help Porting Number (but with a catch)

Dopamin3

Lurker
I was looking at buying an unlocked Galaxy Nexus and putting it on the $30 plan from TMobile on the monthly4g web special. I want to port my current Virgin Mobile number over to the new phone, which I believe should be possible. But I also want to be able to keep my Virgin Mobile Triumph on the $25 a month plan and just get a new number for it.

Is this possible? Or once you port the number it will get rid of the old service?

That should be possible but you should just call VM and ask them to make sure before you port your number out to TMobile.

Yea my bets would go with losing the 25$ a month plan, because the way VMs accounts work is your account number is your phone number, new number = new account so a big possibility be treated as a new customer. But if you were to call in and explain they might do what they can to keep you on their network.

I like the progression of this thread.

should be possible --> may lose --> gonna lose

You absolutely cannot port your number out if you want to keep the $25 plan. As soon as you port, the account is closed. If the number is worth that much to do, it may be in your interest to wait until near the end of your billing cycle. Otherwise, that money is just lost.

I can also confirm from first hand experience that when you port your number your account is immediately closed. So yeah, no way to keep your plan.

how much you buying the nexus for, virgin has the unadvertised htc one s its a bit costly but have equal or better specs then the nexus, 4.5" screen i believe too it is 4g so i dunno if your grandfathered $25/m will carry over but id try on a device that price just something to think about, and ps. im not talkking about the One x...
