Porting number to T-Mobile?

Hey guys I was just wondering how long it would take to port a number from a different carrier to T-Mobile's $30 a month plan, in my case it's from Virgin Mobile, I know the website says that it could take up to 24 hours but I've read on various other forums that it took them longer than 24 hours? Just want to know how long it took some of you guys to port your number over as I'm switching over and wanting to port my number. Thanks in advance :)

The one time that I ported to t-mobile was a few years ago (so obviously not the plan you reference) and it took about 3-4 hours. I was coming over from AT&T. They told me that the process would be in steps and something like incoming calls would switch to my tmobile first. Then the outgoing would switch to tmobile soon after.

But I am a focus group of one, so don't count on that. One trick is to swap at night on the weekend. So, you are likely to have it taken care of in the morning when you wake up. If not, it shouldn't take much longer or impact your work day.

Well, I activated my sim card and requested they port my number with last night at around 7:30pm CST and it's now been around 13 hours and nothing yet :( hopefully it'll be done later today

I went from boost mobile to t mobile put in the request at about 7pm by 8am the next morning it was done, had a text from t mobile and restarted phone to complete it.

Back when I was with t mobile several years ago, porting my number from from att to them, took around 36 hours for me but eventually was ported.

Patience is a virtue :)

Yeah patience is a virtue lol, I called them to check the status of the transfer and they told me it would be done by the 15th. It's well worth the wait. Thanks for everyone's input on this :)

Glad I stumbled across this thread.Getting ready to jump to T-MOBILE from SPRINT & wasn't anticipating any kind of service interruptions by porting my number over.

At least I'm not in the dark & wondering why, should there be any delays in service.

Not knowing what is involved w/porting a number from another carrier,I'm curious as to what/why there is any delay at all......:questionmark:

Unless t mobile has changed since I've been with them, the only service interruption you'll encounter is no data connectivity until the number port is complete.

Oddly sms/voice works with the number issued, just no data as well as mms.

It's a matter of how long it takes your current carrier, in this case, sprint, to release your number to t mobile.

So it's actually not on the new carrier, all dependant on the current carrier how long you'll wait for the port to complete.

wow, that seems like a long wait.
I just did this earlier this month and as I said 12/13 hours was the total time boost and virgin mobile are both part of sprint so I wonder why the delay.

Thank you.I can live w/that.SPRINT is already aware that I'll be leaving them for another provider,as customer care documents/notates the subject of each call made to customer care.

Curious as to if account status/history plays a part in the time it takes to completely port a number over.

I have auto-pay & owe only $100 ETF.On that note,I called SPRINT customer care yesterday regarding my current phone & selling it to someone else entirely.I'd assumed that they wouldn't release the phone for activation until my final bill is paid in full.
To my surprise, they said as long as you port the number to another provider/carrier,the phone will immediately be released for activation to the new owner/number.
I suppose since the # is ported & active, they have a means of locating you, should you become delinquent on your final bill.
Otherwise,I can't imagine why they would be willing to release the phone for re-activation w/o your bill being paid in-full.

In summary.I'll be getting enough out of the sale of my SGS3 to cover my final bill+ETF & plunk down more than the minimum $99 down to get the HTC ONE,whenever T-MOBILE gets it...........:bebored:

In the meantime,I'll be using an LG G2X.

I think its because the port will close the account and when the account is closed the esn is released from it.

That's almost verbatim what customer care said.

I'm still surprised the ESN is clear w/a balance due.I'm not complaining,it just doesn't make sense to me,from their perspective,to clear the ESN w/a balance due.

I asked if it needed to be paid immediately (including ETF) to enable the buyer to immediately activate the phone w/his number & they said no,the final bill & ETF will be on the same scheduled payment date, which is exactly a month from now,as I just paid a few days ago.

Agian.I just find it odd,but,pleased nevertheless. :D

I believe that as your credit check was good they will give you the benefit and expect you will make your payment as scheduled.

It is great that they will do that so many things these days they wont trust you to keep your word.

Just got word that the loaner phone from a friend of mine will be delivered Tuesday (4/16/13).

As I mentioned earlier,it's an LG G2X. My friend said feel free to root/ROM as I wish,as she has absolutely no use for it ever again, now that she's rockin' a GALAXY NOTE 2.

Can't say I blame her..........................:D

Well people have been reporting in so many different times from a couple of hours to half a week. I guess just wait and I can't guarantee but it should hopefully finish by or before the 15th. Tmobile is faster on porting but it depends on what carrier you're coming from and how unwilling they are to lose you as a customer.

Yeah hopefully it'll be done by tomorrow, if not I'll just call them to see whats going on lol

my experience witht-mobile is that the support is helpful and knowledgeable. But sometimes, more than one contact with them (aka a second opinion) can move things along better

Switched over today from SPRINT.Porting of number w/100% functionality, took all of 2hrs.

I had immediate service (talk/text/data) w/a temporary number until port was complete.

Loving the data speeds so far, looking forward to trying it out on the ONE.:D

Gonna go off-topic for a second:

I'm using an LG G2X at the moment, but, looking to get the ONE.My question is this:

Should supply of the ONE be limited & I don't end up w/one in the foreseeable future,I was considering picking up an HTC AMAZE

I see you have/had one, would you recomend it?

THX! :)

Yeah it lives to its name! The only problem is that the amaze forum here is dead, but on xda its very much alive. The camera is on par or even better than the s3 and we have some great Roms on xda. Development for it will slowly die out when developers leave but the Roms are left perfect for the most part. We have cm 10.1 cm10, aokp viper rom, etc. :)

I recommend it even if you don't care about rooting. :)

If you do get the one you won't be able to s-off or have sd storage or have a removable battery.

I read on xda they already have a method for unlocking bootloader/ and Im guessing S-off for the htc one.
I would never want a cdma phone with non removable battery, but a gsm phone with sim its not quite as bad, from a tracking the phone perspective.
I do dislike non removable batterys from all other perspectives, in case of battery fail or just to get a bigger battery or if bootloops pull battery.

Though the nexus 4 you hold the power button long enough and it shuts down.
