Probably, but this involves something called ESN swapping in almost any case (except, if you're desparate, Sprint). This usually requires software like CDMA Workshop, spending a couple hundred dollars on the full version, and then having the know-how to use it.
...That and wading through the army of people who would rather argue about the morality of doing so. Check howardforums' Boost section, there's a lot of hopping discussion about doing it there.
Well it's both really. And I know you can be banned from a lot of forums just for mentioning it.
I've done a little research really quickly, and it seems that it's illegal IF you knowingly intend to defraud anyone, clone a phone, or otherwise get free service. As the laws stand, it seems to be legal to repair a damaged phone and even to transfer from one phone to another IF not more that one USABLE phone is assigned a given ESN/MEID. If this is correct, you could junk or wipe & part out the donor phone and stay legal.
I'm sorry, I don't have the references to specific laws on this computer. I'll post them if I can remember to lol.
Also, I've been told on another forum that porting to another carrier would be a matter of getting them to add the ESN to their database (the hard part) and then a few simple programming changes via software & USB cable. Then *228.
Anyone know where I could look for someone to add the ESN to USCC? That should be perfectly legal, nothing to do with ESN swapping at all.
I can't think of any way to add an ESN to a database except to get a phone from them and swap the ESNs out with software and whatever programming tools you need... (although for practical purposes I can't imagine anyone going beyond adding a donor phone's ESN to a target phone and then tossing the donor.)
Doing this is also more in-depth than simply swapping the ESNs, unfortunately. PRLs need to be updated, and more often than not MMS messages will not work because often MMS settings are hard to modify. Even for Android devices.
