Root Possible Bricked Xoom

PthPndr

Lurker
Through all fault of my own I think I bricked my Xoom. I was attempting to install MZ604 image on a MZ600 and now I can't get the tablet to do anything.

  • It hangs at the Motorola red "M" logo when attempting to boot.
  • It hangs at "Reading ODM fuse: 1" when attempting to boot into Recovery

When I boot into fastboot, the computer will see the device and allow me to flash all the partitions from the factory restore image I have. It completes everything happily and with no error but still won't boot (same error as above).

I can boot into RSD and it sees the device but I do not have a MZ600 .SBF file to install to the tablet. When I attempt to install a MZ604 image, it completes it happily with no errors but the above problem still exists.

Any other ideas or information would be greatly appreciated.

Yes I am. When I tried restoring factory I did the following:

fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash userdata userdata.img
fastboot erase cache

Try booting into recovery by starting with the power off. Press power and wait 3 seconds after you see the logo and press volume down, you should see recovery across the top, press volume up. You can also try and use adb to boot into recovery.

Once you get into recovery try and do a fdr.

ADB doesn't see the device, it just tells me "device not found".

And if I attempt to get into recovery from power-up it still just hangs at "Reading ODM fuse: 1".

Every get a fix for this? Having same problem after I tried to root to KitKat. I started with the TWRP Big Partition, and things went downhill from there. I can use fastboot but can't get into recovery at all.

Not sure if my problem was the same but sounds similar. Here is a link to what I did to resolve it, in particular look at post #4 - Stuck at Motorola logo and RSD mode 3 | Motorola Xoom | XDA Forum

My Xoom is working perfectly. Good luck.

Edit: ran into same problem again after trying to update to CM11 KK 4.4.4 BigPart ROM and used above method to recover then flashed original ICS stock ROM and ran through OTA updates until it did not find any new ones. Then used BigPart method to repartition device and installed CM11 KK4.4.4 - best performance I ever got from this XOOM. Its like a different Tab.

The problem is my Xoom is not rooted (just unlocked) so I can't flash a ROM. The TWRP Big Partition successfully partitioned the Xoom, but now it is stuck.

You don't need to be rooted to flash a custom ROM as long as you have a working custom recovery installed and you can access it, which seems to be the case. Most custom ROMs come already rooted. and since you say you managed the BigPart process you should be able to flash a BigPart custom ROM without issues.

Just follow the process described in my previous post (to the letter) and then BigPart again, then flash your choice of ROM.
