Possible defective Ultra?

My girlfriend has a Ultra on Boost,it worked fine for about 7 months and now it acts up.Freezes,requires a battery pull,sends multiple texts messages,battery is terrible and goes down to 50% within 2-3 hours from fully charged.I'be called Samsung and they told me to factory reset..I think the latest update gave it more problems.I've called Samsung twice and want me to send it in so they can factory reset.Anyway I can get Samsung to send me a new phone?

Oh thats not defective, thats judt the Ultra for ya.
Battery life goes down after a few months of use and the key to fixing thoses other problem is rooting your device.

If I root it,would it stop freezing randomly?She doesn't care about the multiple texts being sent.She just wants to stop having to battery pull 4-5 times a day because it freezes.Can you link me a guide to root 2.3.6?Thanks

Yeah, your gonna have to install a custom ROM after root because just rooting your device doesnt fix everything.
Take a look in the all root section can you can see all the ROM available for the ultra. We have a good amount of pretty nice ROMs with great features.
