Possible Fixes For Freezing/Rebooting Issue.

ok, so I found 2 archives on my computer.

One is labeled: MS690ZV4-root and has an older prl (3017nam1), busybox file, su file, and a superuser.apk.

The other is OPTIMUS M STOCK ROM.

I want to know which one is best to use and if there is a difference. I remember using the root one when I bricked my first one, but can't find the guide thread that it came from to follow.

Should I just do the stock one, or is the rooted one any different and how would I install the busybox and superuser since they are included in that zip?

Oh, do the stock one, definitely. Also, I'm sorry to hear about your OM with the broken SD slot. (I did once come to a website that sold replacement parts, but I'm not sure how difficult of a fix that would be.) But yeah. Use the stock ROM. It will write over the system and everything will be stock. Then you would have to re-root it (preferably using Gingerbreak) and then flash the recovery (using adb shell, a terminal emulator, or the flash gui), then flash the OC Kernel.
If i were you, I would re-download the bin file and do a MD5 check to make sure it downloaded completely...that would prevent errors. Also, don't mess with it while its loading.

Side note: after flashing recovery, maybe you could make a Nandroid backup, just in case something later goes wrong. It backs up everything and can be restored at anytime.

yeah I had my first one rooted with custom recovery, overclock kernel and a nandroid backup. Just since the little tiny pin broke off (have no idea how) I had to find another one. Lucky I had a friend that wasn't using hers anymore, so I got it and did the factory reset and its just not right. so I'm gonna flash the stock one and hopefully it doesn't zero out on me. when inside lgnpst, do I need to input the prl I want flashed or will the 3025 that currently is on it carry over? what about the scr file part? do I leave that blank? will my spc code be the same as my other one or do they differ from phone to phone?

Sorry about the wait. Um...you won't need to do the prl, it gets carried over. (actually about that, you should dial *228 to get the latest roaming list, and that would be 3026). Don't do the scr file. Its not needed and messing with that may actually cause the zero out. It happened to me, and I had to call metro pcs like 3-4 times to get my number back. Hope that helps.
Also, you say the phone is "just not right" what do you mean about that? Is it rebooting and/or freezing?

Its not right to me cause I rooted it for her a few months ago and installed titanium backup and froze or uninstalled the bloatware. then when I got it, I didn't get her sd card to try and restore the apps before I did the factory reset. I am getting some fc's and it does reboot (once while trying to reply to this message). so I need to do something to try and fix. not sure how to use adb very well (even though I got it when I installed joneidy's recovery on my first optimus. On both my phone and cmd it says file or path not found or doesn't exist. For the recovery I even moved the .sh file to the folder so I could skip the first line of code. it says it can't find the file or folder.

I just want my phone working right again with root, custom recovery and the stock oc kernel. like I had on my first one. I wasn't flashing any roms yet as I kept it stock with a launcher. Then took out my sd for some reason and the little metal prong was missing and the phone wouldn't recognize the card.

So just choose the stock bin and leave all others blank and hopefully I don't zero out?...lol

my ask is at the root of my c drive.

so wouldn't I open cmd as admin and type:
C:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools

then commands like >adb shell or su to get the # symbol? after I type the path it says is not recognized ad an internal or external command.

I have my phone plugged in, debugging on and mass storage off. Does all that sound right? now if I use btep on my phone I can get root # but the commands for the recovery give similar error.

I was able to get Joneidy's recovery installed using better terminal emulator pro. so off to flash the oc kernel. If I get sick of the reboots, when I flash the stock.bin, does the custom recovery get removed as well?

edit: got the recovery and overclocked kernel installed successfully! One plus of this new phone is that it beats my previous 748-768 max, now at 806 and seems stable (ran stress test for a while). Haven't had any reboots yet but I know they are random. so my fingers are crossed. When and if it keeps being dumb and rebooting when I flash the stock bin will the custom recovery and oc'd kernel be removed in the process? I'm much happier just having the recovery and the phone is much faster then the stock 600mhz! Would the stock kernel be to blame for the reboots?
