Root Possible Full OTA 2.2 SBF

Ugg, so this is pointless for me at the moment as i am still ruining the leaked 2.2, if the is the "old" 2.2OTA SBF then going through the entire process to get to an already bug filled OTA sounds stupid.

even when this rumored updated OTA 2.2 is released, who knows how long we will have to wait for that SBF ...

so tom... the errors reported (moto acknowledged them apparently and is issueing a fix according to the blogs) do we know if they're related to the just system files or are they related to the bootloader and/or kernal? i ask because if not, then wouldn't it actually be a good idea to update to official ota since it updates everything (including kernal and boot) and then just push the leaked system files back to the phone to fix the errors?

maybe a stupid question but thought i'd ask just to make sure.

But couldn't anyone who gets the new updated OTA 2.2 just flash back to this if they brick their phone, then reinstall the update by "checking for updates," or is that only available to your phone once?

I would think so, assuming there isn't another change to the bootloader with the rumored 2.2 bug fix update (which, IMO, is unlikely with this type of update, but who knows for sure). As in, this SBF will flash you to 2.3.15. If, say, 2.3.17 is available, then it should update, right?

I have the file downloading and I will be uploading to my web server later this evening. I normally do most of my work on the original Droid 1. I wanted to get this file hosted for those of you getting slow torrent speeds or cannot torrent. Also my web server has unlimited space and bandwidth. This was a great help when the D1 2.2 files came out. Once I have the file uploaded I will post the link to the file and that link should be for the most part permanent.

Here's a question:

I am currently running FlyX, which is based on the 2.2 leaked 2.3.9 build (before the updated bootloader). Now that we have a 2.2 OTA SBF, I would like to upgrade. Can I just use the new SBF to get to that point, or would I instead need to SBF back to 2.1 and then upgrade via OTA?

And once I upgrade to the latest OTA, I might as well wait to root until the upcoming fixes are released, right? If I upgrade to the latest OTA and root right away, I won't be able to apply the OTA fixes when they come out, right?

Thanks!

you are correct. however since this is in the all things root section. i wanted to be clear on what the effects could be.

I'm betting you will have 2.2 OTA with all the same errors that Motorola has admitted to having in the OTA. Motorola also said not to install the leak or use the 2.1 sbf. Nothing new.

This sbf looks like it came from a VZW employee so it is the one they are using in store. I say its good and the contact is being a "good" moto employee by telling you not to install anything that isn't official.

The SBF overwrites the bootloader, kernel and system partition.

I don't know if you have to wipe user data but I probably would just to keep things clean.

So, yes, you can just use this SBF to upgrade to the OTA 2.2.

Also, rooting by itself does not prevent you from getting OTA updates. Rooting and doing things with root that modify the system files will be what prevents you from getting the OTA updates.

My understanding is you can flash this to get 2.2 OTA. You would then need to root and whatever else is needed (deodxed) before applying any themes.

Thanks, I haven't had the need to SBF yet, so this will be my first time. I understand I need RSDLite (check) and USB drivers? I have Win7 64bit... do I still need to install drivers before doing this, and where would I find them? Thanks!

I'm currently on the leaked 2.2, I downloaded the sbf last night. I have the appropriate drivers installed, rsd lite 4.8. I go through the whole process yet it says flash failed. I have tried twice to get it up and running with no luck. Any ideas?

As mentioned before here is the link to the file on a web server for those of you having troubles or unable to use bit-torrent. Also like I said I normally do more with the D1 just hosted this for the community in general, so I cannot be a big help since i have 0 hands on experience with the DX. If someone who has the sbf would like to download and also verify the MD5 of this file that is fine too but I got it from a link in this thread. When the D1 2.2 came out people were getting over 3MBs on the download so I hope its fast for everyone. To anyone here that does a lot with the DX if you are looking for a place to host ROMs or other files please do not hesitate to ask me. I love Android and the community here is great to work with and look forward to helping out.

I downloaded and tried to flash the file from the bootloader. After 99% executed it fails.

I got the phone a week ago, with stock 2.2, rooted it and was running Fly X.

Is there anyway I can unbrick my phone? The "Code corrupt" bootloader message is terribly frightening.

if you have the corrupt bootloader message the sbf can not help you.....at that point you have 2 options.....go get an electrical engineering degree and dicect the hardware or get a new phone....or try to tell verizon that happened after the OTA

I think I'll just go to Verizon. My story will be either I tried to install an app not from the Market, or I tried to update to 2.2 and this is what happened? Which one should I go with? LOL

AHHH, nice - got 4 sources dl ing right now, just in case - so far all the file names match, once all is finished I will check em out and see which match, hopefully all -

Nice add to my colection - see sig :D. About 4 days and you won't have to grab and run my friends, permissions/creditials pending of course.

what i meant was the sbf is the same as the OTA. it has some issues that the new software update coming out fixes. so for those using the OTA this is a nice treat. but for anyone using a leak or custom rom there really is no reason to use this. all you will get is the same problems. my buddy is not a moto employee he does real world testing for them as a consumer. basically he tests the custom roms and leaks in a real world user environment and reports his findings to them. moto has admitted that the 2.2 OTA has issues and this sbf contains those as well. so while this is a safety net. its best not to use it if you don't have the OTA and need it.

trust me. i downloaded it for my file stash cause you never know. but i ain't touching it if i don't have to. :)

I have not seen the MD5 posted anywhere for this file. Here is what I have:
7eec9143a0872b96c5cb7643d05d1093 -- VRZ_MB810_2.3.15_1FF_01.sbf

I have not used the file yet, but is this what you guys are getting? I just want to make sure it d'lded okay.

Thanks.
