Root Possible New Forum For Spectrum Discussion

I've taken a look at a lot of stuff around our devs, the mods on these forums, and our user base. I can understand that this is the mods' forums, so it's a play by their rules type deal. I also understand we really need the collaboration between the devs and the users.

I'm willing to host up a PhpBB board for just the Spectrum if you guys would like on my home server, I warn it's only cable internet, but I highly doubr bandwidth would become a big issue for the amount of people that own a Spec. It would certainly serve as a nice place for everyone to post and collab without fear of retaliation. Unless they are just blatently posting a bunch of non-helpful information, which I would ask you guys to just let me know.

Just a thought, not attacking the mods, just trying to make something where everyone's happy and we can get back to what we were doing! I do think this thread belongs in this forum section, as this is where the heart of our Spectrum user/dev base looks and also has to deal with our device as well.

Post if you think it's a good idea and would hop on and if there's enough people, I can have it up tomorrow. I'm not recommending anyone leave androidforums, it's a valuable house of info for devices, but at least for the Spectrum and to get Death2All back, and to allow all the personal attacks we love to read to stay.
 
We have done this before in the past. It causes a lot of user fragmentation and confusion. Its bad enough as it stands to have the "big three" forums, adding little single device/single phone forums always fizzle out.

I'm not sure if you think I'm trying to start a huge forum site or something, the idea is for it to fizzle out, once the device gets pretty old. RootzWiki isn't exactly hoppin' with activity, if he posted there I'm not sure how many people would even notice it off the bat... Not sure how it would really confuse people, if you want info on your spectrum, go here, if not, go to one of these places. But like I said, it was just a gesture, if no one wants to go for it then well, we don't go for it. It's either a collaborative effort or not.
 
Last time I was over @ rootz, the spec forum was dead. But, it's a great Site if devs want to start posting there.
 
Rootz is and alright place to go. but like mrb said the spec forum is dead and has been for some time now. and at that when i try to register over there it never works. im down for a sight just for our phone.
 
I'm down tdm needs him and he needs tdm , when one or the other is to busy to work on this. He or she can look at notes left by other Debs , and possibly know what's going on.

At this rate we have a long wait until its finished, tdm is eventually going to need a break.
 
Not to steal the idea from you, but I can put a forum up on my site, I already have most of our files mirrored there. With the forum setup it would allow devs to post their own files. My host has unlimited storage and is supposed to be 99.99995% uptime.

I know I've turned down giving ftp access to a couple of our devs, because it is not my account, but that is different from setting up a forum. I'd even make d2a a site mod...

I've thought about a forum before just never thought I'd get enough traffic to keep it open. But this idea with an intentional future death is intriguing. And I can promise it will stay up for at least 3 years.
 
Is that bad or good? I left it up to him on whether or not I do or he does. Just offered, since I already have the files and it would prevent his bandwidth from tanking our his storage space from being used.
 
So I don't really care where it's hosted, just that something were to happen. However I notice that the only devs that chimed in pretty much said it was a bad idea. Now the big people who are batting around ICS are T and death, and they haven't chimed in here at all. So no point in having a seperate forums if the people we want in there won't be joining us.
