I was checking out the tear-down of the galaxy nexus and it got me wondering if we could replace the camera module in the nexus with the one from the sii?

1 in 10,000 is about where I would put the odds. Cell phones have absolutely no extra space. Unless they were exactly the same size and shape, it wouldn't fit. Then the electrical connections need to be in the exact same place. That's before you even get into data transfer and driver issues.

Because that's were the phone is lacking and the s2 takes better photos. I have a newborn and its important to me to take great pictures. I had a thunderbolt and the pictures were soo nice. Im renting the razor I didn't want the rezound cuz i knew I would keep it due to the camera being awesome. I don't have money to buy a camera and don't want to carry one. I shouldn't have too cuz my thunderbolt took great pictures n video. But looks like the nexus is a big downgrade ill see when I get it whenever it comes out. Sorry for the rant got my fingers crossed for possible camera upgrade or mod.
Not sure where I saw it but pretty sure it was is Matias Duarte's interview with the Verge. He stated that the camera is the same as the SGSII it is just set up a 5mp to allow the camera speed. There currently isn't a cost effective memory with a write speed high enough to make the camera as fast as the nexus at a higher pixel count.

He upgraded with the intent to return it upon the release of the Nexus. That's what I assume.
The GN and SG2 are not interchangeable due to differences in the hardware connector. The GN is snap-on whereas the SG2 uses a slip-in cable. Other physical differences in PCB shape and dimensions would indicate that they are a different model as opposed to being the same and one being resolution locked.

That's the crux of the issue for me - the only time I want to take photos with my phone is when something is happening in the now - and for that purpose, I'll take the super fast camera over the somewhat better quality one any day.

Hmm.. I disagree the speed difference is really not that much, the Galaxy S II isn't quite as fast as taking pictures, but it really isn't that much slower and won't really make a difference.
Camera wise, I haven't received my Nexus yet so I cant comment on which one is that much better.
But I rely on my phone for my camera and I think a lot do. My wife sometimes brings her camera but with men or at least the men I know, don't have huge pockets, not saying skinny jeans, but I cant fit a phone in my pocket and a camera.
I bring my phone, keys, and wallet and that is about it. So I want my phone to take as good as pictures as it can.
With that said, the pictures I have saw taken from the Galaxy Nexus look good to me, so it shouldn't be a big deal.
I do a comparison between my wife's Galaxy S II and my Nexus Galaxy when I get it. Either way I am sure I wont be disappointed.
