Possible upgrade to Triumph

I currently have the Optimus V, and have been drooling over the Triumph since Virgin announced it, but now that I'm actually in the process of saving for it, I've been taking a closer look at the issues that people have been having with it and I've been wondering "Is it really that bad? Should I just but an iPod touch and keep my current phone instead?" (Because after all, I'm happy with my Optimus V but it doesn't have everything I wish it had).

So, those of you who have(or have had) the Triumph answer me this, are the issues that people have listed as deal breakers(such as the poor signal, battery life, GPS, poor screen response, freezing/restarting, etc;) as bad as they make them seem, or are they just minor annoyances that can be tamed/ignored?

Any answers greatly appreciated, thanks!

Edit: Also for anyone who had upgraded from the Optimus V is there anything with the Triumph which you like that wasn't with the Optimus, or the opposite, if you miss something about your Optumus specifically?

I haven't even had most of those issues besides service being a little worse and gps but I don't even use gps enough for it to bother me.

EDIT: What I like about it coming from the Optimus V: Bigger screen, Adobe flash, camera flash, 5mp camera, led notification light, stereo speakers on the sides, more dev support, 1ghz snapdragon processor, better multitouch (barely).

What I don't like coming from the optimus v: no dedicated camera key, capacitive buttons, have to take off battery cover to get to sd card, battery has less mAh, cost me $300.

That's my take on it coming from the lg optimus v.

It's a very good phone. Got it rooted. Went the CM7 route and not Muiu (wish i could have that move back) but regardless it's great... Added a task killer and juice defender and the battery is improved.

Really really like it... (Then again I'm coming from the Samsung Intercept which would have won every Razzie award if there was such a thing)...

Bought it at $260 and I see you can nab it for less than $240. Even better of a deal!

Haha, I know exactly what you mean, my brother had the Intercept and as soon as I got my Optimus he played with it for a few minutes and immediately went and bought one also.

I switched from the Optimus V to the Triumph.
I have been using CM7 on both of the phones and the only issue I would say is the GPS on the Triumph can take some time to lock. Battery life is actually decent with the latest builds on CM7 and MIUI ROM's. This phone of course has a better processor, bigger screen but I did like the physical buttons on the Optimus. Overall I'am happy with my switch, people used to have problems with the Triumph but I think they have been cleared up now.

You can switch from CM7 to MIUI. It is quite easy. Also you don't need/want a task killer. They actually are counterproductive on newer (2.0+) versions of Android. If you want more information on this I can post some links when I get a chance.

Also I am very happy with my triumph. My wife has the OV and I much prefer this phone.

If you're considering a Triumph, flash to CM7 and you will be happy. I have zero issues with CM7. I've never encountered the poor signal so I can't comment and the only issue I had with my MT was the GPS but I just got a replacement and it's fixed. CM7 is awesome on the MT so stop waiting unless you're deal shopping, Check tomorrow (Cyber Monday) otherwise get yourself a Triumph!

I love my Triumph. I have been rooted and running CM7 for a week now and love it. I haven't had any problems other than just got back from my family's home about 5 hours from my house and it wouldn't pick up Virgin Mobile(Sprint) at all...wife's verizon would but I knew that when I got it.

The phone is great. You can always return it if you get a bad one. Hopefully you will get one like mine that works great.

Yeah, when I go visit my parents or extended family, I don't get a very good signal. In fact, I am lucky to get one at all depending on where exactly I am. But like you said, I knew that before I signed up. It's not that big of a deal as I usually get a good signal where I am most of the time.

if you're in the market for it, you better buy it now. $150 from virgin's website right now. use save20 to drop the price to $120 + tax

Thank you guys for all your help, I was looking on my phone one last time for the night on virgin's site to look up something, and was blown away at their 50% off on the phone, with another promo code I ordered it extraordanarily cheap, and now I can say I'm probably the happiest person in the world for the time being.

where did you find the another promo code?

I, too, have purchased a MT today on the 50% VM deal and minus 20% SAVE20 coupon, =$120 + tax. An outstanding deal if you happen to get a working phone. I bought and returned 2 MTs last summer (no GPS and weak signal) and went back to my dependable LG OV. Maybe I'm a sucker, but MT's features are very attractive (screen size, hdmi, 2 cams) -- just hoping for a good phone. Won't hesitate to return again if it doesn't work, and then wait until a better phone than the OV shows up. What is amazing is why Motorola hasn't fixed this product.
