Your tech support, your supposed to know more than customer service.

I'd have to disagree here. I've learned more on this site alone (and passed it on to VZW tech people) than they could ever possibly learn. Remember, they have to support hundreds of phones, from people who still use the Moto Razr to the BB Storm to the X. Quite a wide range to know everything about...

I DO NOT want a replacement. I want the one i'm using at the time to work. Your tech support, your supposed to know more than customer service. When i say how i think something works and i'm wrong correct me! Constructive criticism is the best thing. But when i talk to 1 tech guy and all he wants to do is send a replacement and then talk to another and they say well this is why your service is bad, your showing up as roaming and your standing under a vzw tower, let me help you with that. And if you have an attitude with people that have had multiple replacements like it's gotta be their fault automatically is just bad service. I do understand that you probably deal with irritating people but the good ones don't deserve the reprecussions. They mite have had other people not try and just say well i'll send you a replacement instead of putting in effort. But all you see is someone with multiple replacements. First thing i say is i don't want a replacement, i want to try and get this one fixed. Oh and i prefer refurbed phones. I have had better luck with them. The 2 new replacements i got were broken right out of the box.

You missed the whole point of my post didnt you.

When I was hired from care to tech I received a month and a half worth of training on our network and that training on OUR NETWORK continues. I support our network.

If you want advanced troubleshooting on your phone, contact the manufacturer. Your expectations are too high.

While its true that I can help troubleshoot android phones more than my neighbor or anyone around me at work it doesnt mean I should. I choose to spend time online learning about the android OS and how to fix issues on devices but how is that fair for me to provide advanced support for devices when the grandma on the next row that doesnt know jack about gingerbread or honeycomb and cant help you?

Let me break this down for you.

If you want support with dropped calls or network related issues with your verizon phone, call tech support and expect to have your issue fixed.

If you want support with your device not functioning properly call vzw tech support and expect general support and then be passed on to rim or one of the other phone manufacturers or we will use the manufacturers warranty and replace your phone if you dont want to work with your phones manufacturer.

Its just not possible for us to be trained on fixing every problem with every phone we carry. Imagine all the time we would be training on advanced troubleshooting for every device we've carried.

i keep seeing that you are "master resetting/factory resetting" the device(s) to try and restore them to stock...that's all fine and dandy, but unless you are also clearing ALL data and caches, then you are not actually reseting the phone. I would also have to agree with rogue, most people's problems are user error when it comes to them having so many replacements. If something doesn't work straight out of the box, thats different. but if it's app related then it's user error, again binary said it-user error does not equal a negative meaning against the user. My job is to program a robot for scientific research. 9 times out of 10, when there is a problem, i can identify it as my own user error. it happens with technology. especially on phones where you download an app and it can cause things to go haywire. my suggestion is, and maybe you have done this but i didn't read it up above, factory reset (including clearing all data and caches that you can possibly see and clear), then start the phone up. skip the activation step, don't load ANYTHING to the device and see if you can connect the gps. if you can, then you have identified that something that is being loaded onto the phone is causing the problem. if you can't load gps, first activate your phone. but don't load ANY backups whatsoever. if you do, you are just reloading any problems you may have had on there in the first place. so without anything, and i really do mean anything, just try to get a gps lock. again if you can, then some app or program or file is causing an error. also, i saw where you had overclocked. overclocking can very easily cause instability and errors in the device all over the place that would seemingly be unrelated to overclocking. I'm just trying to offer what i think could be some troubleshooting help. i'm pretty good at troubleshooting problems. i'm not meaning any of this to sound like i know more than anyone else. but seriously, sometimes its the simplest things that we do all the time that cause problems. a real funny unrelated but related story, my friend was having trouble with his car, it wouldn't start. we did all sorts of checking and testing to get it started (not at a mech shop just at his house) even to the point of buying and replacing the battery thinking the alternater was next. we worked on it for two days before i was trying to start it and noticed his gas gauge said empty. he said it didn't work for a long time, but guess what, i put gas in the car and it started right up. so sometimes major headaches and problems can be caused by simple user error and common things we do everyday

Great post. I would also recommend just trying the gps while you're in safe mode. This will disable any third party apps and the phone should run like you're new out of the box and if gps doesn't work correctly then you probably have a hardware issue and you need to have your device replaced.

Escalade I don't know why you got so bent out of shape over the comments from the forum. You put the question / statement out their so obviously you were wanting some feedback.

I agree your luck doesn't seem to be to good. In reading the respones I think setting up a new Google Account is worth a try. GPS is driven by Google and that seems to be the recurring problem. Maybe there is something buggy in the original account.

since you have rooted before and understand it you might want to root then flash maderstock's zip and get a clean start.

it wasnt my intention to offend others with my comments. but when someone comes in not knowing anything about the situation and tells me its all my fault, yeah thats hits a nerve. if you ask and i answer and then deduct that you think it couldve been user error thats fine. but dont blame someone for things you know nothing about.

i dont get rude with anyone i talk to in customer service or tech support. i understand they have a revolving door of new phones coming in and they cant learn everything. but i will call several times till i get someone that like you knows more than just whats in the manuals but is willing to go above and beyond with someone thats actually trying to learn and not just calling so they can get a replacement. you have knowledge share it! i take all the thigns i learn in here and try to help anybody i can. whats the point in having the knowledge if you dont share it. taking the time out and helping a random person to me is an awesome thing. honestly i didnt think about calling motorola about any issues. it was never suggested to me until now.

haha. i completely understand that. i bought a car from someone for cheap because it wouldnt start, no lights, no power to anything, even with a new battery. well i followed the battery positive cable and found a $2 fuse blown. always check gas, fuses, circuit breakers, and make sure its plugged in first!

i only overclock when im playing games and never when trouble shooting. thats a touchy thing anyways so its a quick elimination of something.
i did try hard reseting by doing this, returning to stock, pulling sd card, canceling all downloads and making sure no non stock apps were on it, and deleting all cache. i didnt have any accounts on it except google. but i did not make a new google account to see if that had anything to do with it. that is something that im goin to try though. i do wanna add that since yesterday morning i have had the gps get a signal twice but neither one was where i was. they were both about 200 miles from me in different towns. i wanna say that maybe my gps network data is getting crossed with someone elses. and on the other phones when it did the same thing but going 120-187mph that person being in a plane because it would speed up and slow down like they were hitting a headwind.

and for the record im not saying i dont make user errors or mistakes.

I'm glad I read this thread, even though I have nothing constructive to tell the OP. At least I learned about making a new Google account as a troubleshooting solution. A new account wouldn't have the plethora of apps associated with it.

i just thought of this, when was the last time you calibrated the compass? if the compass is not calibrated, it will give ALL SORTS of weird gps readings. i know you used to be able to calibrate from the gps settings page. its where you rotate the phone for several minutes through all six axes so it can get a lock on magnetic north.

I did calibrate it before i installed liberty but before i installed liberty i cleared data and cache so i was going to do it again to try out your suggestion. But i don't see it. There's not anything to select besides just turning on the gps. I'll ask in the root forum to see if they can help me find it if i can find a thread pertaining to it. I'll let ya know if that changes anything

Well I'd suggest doing it under stock os. I couldn't ever find the compass calibrator in Liberty. If you want to do all this under a ROM, I'd say the newest Apex would be better than Liberty. Liberty removes alot from the motorola overlay. I know this is what most people like about it, including me, but you are trying to decipher whether you have hardware or software issues. So, as close to stock as possible would help this. Plus, I just looked and the compass calibrator is where it's supposed to be in Apex. Goodluck!
