possibly switching from s4

I've had my s4 for a little less than a year now. I used to have an iphone, but finally decided to switch. I love the s4, but its been nothing but troublesome since I've had it. I don't know if its just my phone, or a widespread issue. It performs bad/slow under low service conditions....its dropping signal periodically throughout the day...and here in the past week the battery is apparently not fitting snug, so if I lay my phone down on a hard service with a little force, my phone shuts off. Had to put a piece of paper in between back case and battery so it wouldn't do it. My question is, what is an awesome phone that performs great that's similar to an s4? Thanks guys!

The HTC One is a nice phone. I would have bought it but it doesn't have a removable battery nor a micro-SD card. Two things I need. Other than those two issues, I think the One is a better phone with better software.

I don't put music on my phone or take a lot of pictures, so I don't need much storage, but it is nice to have just in case...so the m8 might be a good choice. Thanks for your input!

If I were buying a phone now, I'd go for the G3. It has the best spec of the current Androids and it looks pretty nifty. You could go for the S5, but I wouldn't because of the Knox crap.

I think you have been unlucky BTW.

Quick update. I did everything I knew to do, reset... New sim etc.... I eventually did a warranty exchange. New phone was working great for a day, no service issues, but started having problems with the WiFi either not turning on or constantly turning off and on over and over. Did another reset on new device, as well as disabling WiFi power save mode, logged in safe mode to see if it would switch on there, but would not. Called support and they suggested flashing the firmware. So now that's what I gotta do before they send me another one, If flashing don't work. This has been so irritating.

Sounds like you've had a run of bad luck, for sure. I've had my S4 since the weekend they were released and it's been a fabulous, extremely reliable phone. SO much happier with it than my string of HTC's before it. But I've heard of a lot of issues with exchanged phones. I wonder if those are problem phones that have been refurbed and used for warranty exchange, making the incidents of failure/disappointment with them higher?

At any rate, if I was getting a new phone today, given my awesome experience with the S4 and my wife's like experience with her S3, I wouldn't even hesitate on the S5.

Wife had an excellent GS4 which was replaced after a fall and cracked screen. The replaced phone (and 2 replacements of that replaced phone) all experienced random screen freezes. The freezes were corrected by rebooting. We purposefully had avoided updating the operating system in the original phone, but all of the replacements had updated OSs. Is it possible that the updated OS uses more memory which, when combined with open apps, taxes / overwhelms the GS4s limited RAM memory to the point of freezing the screen? This is corrected by rebooting which clears RAM memory. If this is correct, are we dealing with a product/ OS conflict and/or de facto product defect???
