Post Handcent, I can't recieve SMS!

Ceasare

Newbie
I switched to handcent, followed the directions, and now can send SMS messages, but cannot recieve them. My phone is a Sprint hero. I am so frustrated. I have rebooted, been to a store, and had long convo's with CS. I am really dissatisfied and confused. HELP! Please?
Again, I can send SMS messages, but I cannot recieve them.

Did you kill the messages app? If so, that would be why. I know several people have mentioned this problem when they kill the app or auto kill with a task manager. All you should have to do is restart your phone.

If this is not the cause, I don't know what else it could be. Good luck

Try texting ALLOW ALL to 9999.

You should get a text back that says - SprintFreeMsg: All text messages are now allowed.

Read it somewhere, tried it, and it worked for me.

try uninstalling handcent, reboot and then send yourself a text message through the native app. if that works, im guessing handcent app was bad.

You do realize that at least 3 of your 6 posts all say the same thing?

And now this post. Lovely. You couldnt just bump your issue in the thread you had the two posts in?

I had issues with the Handcent app, so I use ChompSMS. I don't know if that is your problem. I also read somewhere in this forum that you should make sure your phone is on hybrid, not EVDO only. You need the 1x to receive texts. If nothing works, return your phone, it could be defective.

I wish I knew more. Hopefully something will work for you.

Dude, excuse the dbl. I am just soooooooo frustrated. I am new to this forum. Further, I never had this type of issue with Iphone (although its not open source/system!) My bad.

I can completely understand your frustrations, really, I can. Its new, its kinda buggy, its definately quirky. The texting seems to be hit or miss with some handsets. I just think you were as likely to get an answer in the same thread you started in as you would creating a new post. Either way, we are well past that.

So what steps have you gone through? Have you tried the suggestion above to "allow all" to 9999? If that didnt work, have you tried a factory reset? I know it sounds terrible, but its really not that bad.

Guys, thanks so much for the help. After 48 + hours with no resolution, I just ported back to ATT. It took 5 mins! I am kinda sad. GREAT phone. . . the Sprint techs however. . . sigh.
I may try the Droid.
Again, thanks everyone.

I just updated handcent and the icon is now a grey x instead of the "message" bubble. Anyone else having this issue?
