Ok guys, I think i figured it out!

My GPS was not working before (inaccurate to about 250 meters) so i was very excited for the update. I applied it and there was still no difference. BUT I remember using a simple 5 step guide to make the gps more accurate and lock faster BEFORE I applied the update. So I decided to change the setting back to the original stock settings when I first got the phone. I did that, and it WORKED!!!!!!
Note, that on the guide it says you must type in a number to access the settings. You can no long do that after the update. You CAN however access them through a shortcut app. I used ANY CUT (available in marketplace). Just open Any Cut, click "new shortcut", go to "Activity", then scroll to "LbsTestMode" and click it. the shortcut will be added to your home screen. The guide I linked to gives you the steps on how to change to stock settings.

GPS seems to be fixed for me. Got 10 out of 10 sats and 32.8/16.4 feet accuracy *indoors*. Locks in under 5 seconds.

Initial media scanning after the initial reboot took what seemed like 3x what it normally takes. In other words, forever.
 
I hope someone figures out what to do for those who keep getting the "update is failed" message. Although I don't really need the GPS, it will just make it that much better.
 
Maybe I work in some type of GPS dead zone. At home its locking onto multiple sats and its getting accuracy down to 10 feet. I did make a couple of changes, one I cleared the GPS data and to a set the SUPL setting to auto. I'm not sure if that helped of if its just all the tall buildings by my office.

Could you please post the original settings, I messed with mine so much that I don't recall exactly what the settings where. Thanks in advanced!

I applied the update and in short, it has improved the GPS functionality for me. :D
 
The update process was smooth and only took just over seven minutes (timed). I'm enjoying the outcome, as the overall responsiveness is up.

I checked for an update and installed it. I got messages that no personal data would be lost and no message to remove the SIMM. All went well.
 
Update took a while but no problems. Updated successfully, "About" listing correct build and update. GPS... no good.

Rebooted to see if that's been sped up any and it took about 2m20s to go from touching the power button to having a fully responsive phone. So poo on that.

Played with GPS some more while reading this thread, read something about aGPS, went back to home screen to see if wifi was on, went to turn it off (it was on) accidentally hit the GPS button (I always confuse the two) and my phone locked up. Black screen, buttons lit, completely unresponsive.

Battery removal (odd note: while the back was off I noticed a very strong pleasant smell inside the phone. Like potpourri. It's still there. Driving me nuts trying to figure out what the hell it is, but I did have concern that it could be a burnt chip even though it's a pleasant smell) anyway...

battery removal, reboot, GPS Status and WOW near instant lock from inside. I've never locked inside.

Google Maps, near instant lock and accurate placement. I check and wifi is on, so I turn it off, check Settings/Location and it's off, go back to GPS Status and same result. Go back to maps and I'm no longer on it. I click "my location" and it says to wait until it's found. Takes maybe 30 seconds and places me right where I am.

Now the real test is to see if I can get the speedometer in GPS Hud works, and if it successfully tracks me to work.
 
I am another one with "Cannot Communicate with AT&T Servers" message.
I flashed my phone back to stock. Still no dice, I called ATT, they tried a couple things and nothing, told me to wait 24 hours.
Something is definitely wrong.

Everyone who cannot connect to ATT, what SIM card do you have? A brand new one or re-using one from your old phone? Mine is from my old iPhone.
I just wonder if that has something to do with it.

When I got my cappy the AT&T person just pulled my old SIM and reused it. I'm not sure how old it is. Thinking maybe 3yrs?

I used my old SIM from my BlackBerry and was able to request updates, but since last night I get the 'Unable to communicate with the ATT server' message. I have been forwarding my clock to October 10th now and get the same message each time I try to connect. :(
 
My update worked, but no GPS improvement. In fact, I can't get a lock at all, unless I turn OFF "use wireless networks". Then, it will lock outdoors, weakly indoors at home, but nothing at work. But the outdoor performance is about the same as before.

You do realize right that a GPS is not supposed to work indoors?

Anything that changes core parts of the system that aren't expected to ever change can result in an update not applying. The install process will make assumptions and if they turn out to not be the case, the update can either refuse to install (if you're lucky) or install anyway and break things (if you're unlucky). Many hacks, including lag fixes, don't actually uninstall cleanly even if they advertise an uninstall method. The Voodoo lagfix is a great example, as the "uninstall" still leaves behind the massive customized nonstandard kernel, and does not return you to the stock kernel you had before.
 
I have a stock phone, didn't get a text, checked manually yesterday, got the update, went outside. About 20 seconds later I was tracking outside the building going 20 feet to the left, and then 20 feet back. Nice. On the way home, used it to navigate home. It didn't work great. Seemed to lag behind a bit. Smaller approximation circles than I used to get, but, it still shows the approximation circles about 50% of the time. I had the Aria for just under 30 days, and, as I recall, it was spot on. So, I don't see this as a 100% fix, but, rather a reasonable improvement. It is pretty usable as a GPS now. There must be some underlying hardware issues as well.

post update, typing the *#*#1472365#*# then * causes the number to disappear. Send brings up the call log.

ANY CUT wasn't found in the marketplace. So now what?
 
My phone locks on to more satellites after installing the update. Haven't tried it moving though. Quadrant score is still in the 900s. Time to lagfix it again.
 
I got my update about noon CST yesterday, but I had to manually check for it, I didn't get a text regarding it.
