Post here if you received the OTA update.

@NowVoyager - did your GPS turn on. I have seen over the last week (prior to getting the update) that GPS was just deciding to turn itself on. The battery would then begin draining at least twice as fast as normal.

Thank you K. I just checked and all services (wifi and gps) are off).

Okay guys just got my update about 10mins ago. about 130 pm pacific time. took 10 mins to install. Like the New Samsung logo.

Got the update early this mornin like 1 am but no difference to me besides new app the battery is still just as horrible as before :(

Sounds like u need to retrain your battery. Let it drain out completely and then charge it to full with it off.

Report back and let me know if that works for u. I hope it does.

still no update...and tmobile sending me a replacement unit...my home button just stopped working :( hopefully the replacement is new and not refurb...i'd hate to replace a 2 week old phone with a refurb...

i'll check update when i get the replacement.

Does anyone know if with this update came a fix for text messaging notifications, will we be able to disable the stock text notifications if you have a third party text app? (so you wont get two notifications when you receive a text, one from the app and one from the stock texting app)

Well I got the update yesterday. Phone went to reboot and hung on the ANDROID logo. After about 2 hours I pulled the battery. On restart, same thing. I had to do a hard reset. Now every couple hours it tells me "Congratulations you phone has received and update" I tell it to proceed, it reboots no update takes place, no where's waldo or any thing new. Then a couple hours later it begins again.

I guess I'm not that lucky.

thanks going to try that and see how it goes.

how about being able to kill aps and not having them come back?

so far I noticed that the apps dont come back except the ones like my favs and telenav, but apps that I open on my own and close seem to close out.

no, not yet that was the first thing that I checked for :(

I f you root your phone (I mean root, not use a custom ROM) you can delete the messaging app, then reinstall it, and this will give you the option of turning off notifications in messaging. I reinstalled it before since I had issues with MMS when I simply deleted it.

@BreatheElectro you are a *genius*!!! - As I posted earlier, after the update, my battery was draining like a sieve even though neither GPS nor Wifi were on. The task killer didn't help it. I logged onto this forum and saw your above advice to another poster and followed your advice.

My battery has been fully charged all day and hasn't moved an INCH!!! Whereas before, whether I was talking or doing nothing at all to the phone, it would sit there draining. I had to recharge a couple of times during the day. Now, my battery is holding its charge and not "punking out" LOL

Your post should be made a part of the sticky advice tip section

Many thanks :)

So far with bug fix, my apps are still being deleted whenever I reboot. Most specifically Astro file manager ... also where app is getting deleted as well.

Anybody else experiencing this as well.

Here is my say on update, update has improved battery performance for sure.
But it doesn't fix the 3g issue and dropped call, I have to force my phone still on edge to avoid drop calls. I am located in dallas area and uses the phone tmobile says has full 3g strength.

Has anyone that WON their B2 received the update?
dont worry you will recieve the update. i have a new behold also which i won free rom samsungs contest. and i just recieved it yesterday evening. i read somewhere that the updates were released late feb. (correct me if i'm wrong). you might get it today idk but it shouldnt be long

As per above, yes some that have won from the contest have received the update. We are all just waiting. I just got a replacement from T-Mobile for the one I won on Friday and that one has yet to receive an update either. It is just a long waiting game.

I was having the same problem until I did a factory reset. I just moved and now get full 3g while I only got edge in my old place. As soon as I got here my calls would drop, have slow internet and sometimes not work at all. I then called T-Mobile and they told me to give the factory reset a try....works perfectly now. Give it a shot.

With phone off press vol down, call button and end call button; hold it for a few secs and you'll see a picture of a phone with a triangle, press menu then and you'll see the animation of a phone coming out of a box (i think)

if only doing that would remove telenav, diner dash, bowling, and wheres waldo. and that stupid 40mb file that does nothing. >=|

although after a factory reset you end up with 100mb which is better than a g1 after factory reset thats 65mb

still, if we could remove that big file and the stupid bloatware we'd have 145 atleast.

There is a whole thread that discusses removing those apps.

i dont want to root.

Like Shawn said, then you're stuck with what Samsung gives you. Rooting is simply taking control of your phone, allowing you the advantage of removing whatever you want that's bogging down your phone.

If you want to improve performance slightly, start using Open Home. It kills TouchWiz and helps a little, but rooting and using a custom rom will give you the best possible performance.

i love the phone stock. and i actually really, REALLY, like touch wiz.

well i guess then i do want to root

show me where and how!
