Post sweeterhome 2 themes

Wow, you guys are sooo good with SH I'm in awe! I've put about 6-8 hours in so far and I can't believe what some of you came up with. Elblacksheep and Signals, those homes are really impressive! Unfortunately the majority of the screens here have been deleted, I really want to see what everyone else created.

Great job everyone, very inspiring.

Last time I did anything with my theme was back early in February... since then I've been pretty uninspired by the slow development of SH2 :(

All I want are live wallpapers and a bit more stability ;_;

I just got back from vacation. Let me take a look at it this week and I'll get back to you.

no problem.
You need to use a regular grid size in Sweeter Home ;)
For example, for a 4x4, the bitmap size is 320x360.

Sorry about that. The corrected one is below. From what I could see, all of the other skins work, correct?

I've got LWPs in a private build. Needs a bit of tweaking though. Not that I use LWPs much at all, I like battery life!!!

The dev has been under the pump in his day job. haven't heard from him much at the moment. He's also trying to get other devs up to speed in the SH framework which I think is taking a bit of time ;)

i just downloaded sweeterhome2 and all your themes are nice. is there a how to guide anywhere i should check out? im lost. tried to a few things of signals 23 theme and have no idea what i was doing.

You could check out Sweeterhome.com and Sweeterskins.net for definitions and examples. We are going to start making more robust tutorials and explinations, just haven't had the time yet. ;)

Kids, I'm going to write a blog post with EITHER:

1. a detailed step by step on building a full but simple theme (with a menu and springboards)
2. updates with photoshop screenshots, previews, and tips as I port and enhance an HD version of HotDock.

Which would you guys prefer first?

I figured as much.

You know what SH really needs? Easier installation of new themes.
I had some killer ideas for a new theme yesterday at work (actually got kinda pumped up even) but then about an hour later I realized nobody would be able to use it because you'd have to be a SH supergeek just to be able to set up all the widgets.

I'd have to guess the average user would see all the "Press to setup this widget" boxes and say "F this" and go try something else.

All we can do is make better themes and better instructions. The cream will rise to the top. :-) That's why I include my blog in the description, so the user can get full installation instructions. If they don't care to visit, not much more I can do....

So there's three things at play there.

First is that not everyone has the widgets installed that you have.

Second is that not everyone wants the widgets that run in your theme.

I think people need to think clearly about whether they're building for themselves, or building for an audience. Maybe even build two versions of your theme one for you and one for the masses. Like Signals says, you can also blog about the usage of the theme (in the past I've used YouTube or Picasa slideshows. Shit you could even host an HTML "help" file formatted for Android phones on a public dropbox folder, and link directly to it from your theme using an action block. The thing is that letting a theme embed and load a widget directly is disabled in Android. This is not a SH thing.

Third is that the Dev will possibly eventually publish an API letting existing widget publishers add some code to make them appear native in Sweeter Home. We'll see how this goes down in the future, but imagine an Twitter widget with the editing depth of the SH native SMS widget, for example...

My very personalized SH2 theme. I'm not sure it would really work for anyone else, but it's superbly functional for me. I've been asked to upload it, and I have (under the name GirLuvsDroid), but I truly made it just for me.

I want to give credit to Messenger13, who customized my wallpaper for me, talked me into trying SH2 when I thought it was too complicated, and then coached me in the basics when I first started creating my theme. Thanks Joe!

The bottom dock icons on my main home screen are for (left to right): VoiceDialer HF; Handcent; DolphinHD; Market; Quick Profiles (replaced by Phone on the left & Right screens).

New build out. Includes LWP for those with 2.1+

I have 5 portrait and 5 landscape screens. SH Build:eclair-782 seems to have broken the "Disable orientation change" option in preferences. My screen switches ALL of the time now, whether this feature is checked or not.

Perhaps I check uninstall / reinstall. Hhmmn...

I'm seeing the same thing. Did the uninstall / reinstall work?

This new version is really rockin', can't believe anyone would think anything else is better. LWP and wallpaper throughout.
