Thanks. This is a Trex-certified contractor, so I would trust these guys know if our deck's structure is compatible. Our substructure is 6x6 uprights with 2x10 joists. This thing should still be around after the apocalypse.

I have to admit: these guys turned & burned. Started demolition of the old deck yesterday morning: by the time they stopped at sundown, the new deck surface was done. This morning they showed up at 7 AM to finish the stairs, cladding around the edges and railing. In all, we had a new deck completed in a day and a half! I don't know what they get paid... but for the work they did, it's probably not enough.

I received the new turntable. Can't do anything with it yet, since I'm hoping to get a tube preamp for Christmas (along with a record stand for everything). Meanwhile, I'm building quite a collection of 78s, 45s and 33-1/3 LPs from thrift stores and estate sales... some of which are still sealed up. I ordered a record-cleaning machine, proper solution and a stylus collection so I can easily switch from stereo LP to the old mono 78s.

Nice deck Chief.

Back in the day, I had a direct drive strobe rpm control 4 channel turntable. (Quadraphonic) I hunted far and wide for a 4 channel cartridge to compliment it. (finally found one)

Back then there were only a few artists making 4 channel records, Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention (Overnight Sensation) was my favorite. The WHO (Quadrophina) was another one.

Solar step lights look great, too!

The turntable comes with an elliptical stylus for stereo records, but I'll probably replace it with either a Shibata or multilinear stylus. I'll also get a 3mm conical stylus for our 78s. Not getting anything until after Christmas (just in case someone didn't realize that I'm on the permanent naughty list).

The deck looks absolutely fabulous Chief !!!

Thanks @treb1797 - and the good news is that it should outlive us (and probably the house!) with virtually no maintenance. I'm going to sand & stain the 6x6 uprights, although it's only to match the color. The contractor told us we could put an elephant on the deck and it wouldn't move... we really don't intend to do that, but it'll hold a hot tub 12 feet off the ground if we want it to.

Once we have the privacy screens extended (the Darling Bride might want to get some sun without the teenage boys next door getting any ideas) and the motorized Sunsetter awning rolled out, it's like an entire other room out there!

I bought this tea brewing machine by Breville a number of years ago. Though ours is still working great, the thought of it quitting and no longer being available prompted a backup purchase. We are big time tea drinkers and are very spoiled to using this brewing marvel which produces a perfect tea every time.

Some items I purchased at a Ross department store. For these three items I paid about $18 or $19 dollars including tax
The charger in a truck will run you $15-$30, the gloves $10-$30, the USB type C cable $15-$20.

UPS says Texas flag should be here by lunch.

In a past life I took care of 11 buildings in 7 cities for the State/County of Texas. I was the flag man for several of them.

Did you know it is really frowned upon to fly the flag at night without a light shining on it ?

Traditional guidelines call for displaying the flag in public only from sunrise to sunset.

However, the flag may be displayed at all times if it’s illuminated during darkness.

The flag should not be subject to weather damage, so it should not be displayed during rain, snow and wind storms unless it is an all-weather flag.

Also if there are two poles displaying flags, the American flag is always on the left or first in line.

In a group of state, local and/or society flags, the American Flag should be flown highest and in the center.

The American Flag should be hoisted first and lowered last, when flown with other flags on adjacent staffs.

A flag can be flown at night if it is illuminated. Grabbed from the VFW flag etiquette page:
Illumination Guidelines
Per Federal Flag Code, Section 2, paragraph (a), it is the universal custom to display the flag only from sunrise to sunset on buildings and on stationary flagstaffs in the open. However, when a patriotic effect is desired, the flag may be displayed twenty-four hours a day if properly illuminated during the hours of darkness.

Also: when the flag is statically displayed, the Union Jack (the blue field with white stars) is always in the upper left corner. If the flag is horizontally displayed, the Jack is already in the upper left. However: if the flag is displayed vertically, the Jack must still be in the upper left. A horizontal display cannot simply be rotated 90 degrees clockwise.

BACK ON TOPIC:

I purchased a Spin-Clean record cleaning machine and three bottles of Tergikleen record cleaner. I actually bought TWO Spin-Clean machines... one to wash my records and one to rinse them. I also bought a record drying rack. The cleaner, however, is based on Tergitol - which is not good for the old 78 records. They're not made of vinyl, but acetate (that's why they're so brittle: they don't bend), so I'll use some non-toxic, biodegradable cleanser for those. And we have a lot of the 78s.
