I have never left a message on a forum before but I always read the threads when I have issues and I am so happy to find out that I am not the only one to have this problem with handcent. I love the update and this is the only issue I have really found. So I hope this will help the rest of you...

to use handcent since the ICS update try doing this...it is working so far on my motorola Bionic


set up by following steps:
launch handcent-- Settings-- Application settings-- Default Messaging application--Enable " Disable" -- "MMS"
 
Every time I connected my Bionic to my workstation with a USB cable it would bring up a web page with an AUDIO that begged me to do Backup Assistant.

To turn it off ...

Go to the System Tray on your desktop
Right Click on MotoHelper
Left Click on When device connects ...
Select Do Nothing

It will now quietly make the connection.

This setting is maintained across a restart of your workstation.

I stopped installing the full software suite (just hte extracted drivers for minimal intrusion b/c of that very same thing), so I cannot remember anymore - is this persistent across machine shutdowns?

It is maintained across a restart of the workstation. (A note to that affect was added.)

I did the same thing, but found that while the setting did persist across machine shutdown/restart, every time the software updated itself it would reset back to default and launch the backup assistant.
Can anyone confirm whether that is still the case?
 
I never installed anything on my Bionic to support this. I just turned the option off on the workstation side as documented. The obnoxious request (sound ... I can't believe it) never happens on my workstation.

So you apparently installed something on your Bionic that you don't want/need? Can't you just uninstall it?

If you are having problems finding what you want in Android Forums or the Motorola Droid Bionic forum try doing it with Google.

Add site:androidforums.com to your search request to limit it to Android Forums.

An example is ... bionic fdr site:androidforums.com

I always get the paid version of apps that I use.

Some apps do not have a paid version and instead have rather annoying ads.

To stop the ads ... turn on Airplane mode.

I got my wife a used Bionic that has the Black Screen of Death problem.

I solved it by installing Wake Lock from the market and setting it to 4 (the mid setting in the app.)

Battery life has been completely fine and phone works flawlessly.

Thought I would pass it along as it completely resolved the black screen of death.

"Black Screen of Death" was a catchall phrase used to describe various hangs that occurred in earlier versions of Gingerbread.

I am aware of no problems on the Bionic after installing ICS and doing a Factory Data Reset. That is I think worth repeating ... no problems.

What version of the system are you running?

Sorry for the vague post. I'm a galaxy nexus guy so the bionic has been a learning experience.

Her bionic would go to sleep and the power button would never power it back on. I tried GB and ICS and various custom Roms. Nothing made it work.

That wake lock app helped a lot.
 
You left this message in the Bionic area for un-root-ed devices. The very strong recommendation for everyone with an un-root-ed Bionic is that they upgrade to ICS and then do a Factory Data Reset. We have seen no software problems after they did that.

If you are going to remain root-ed then you have opened the door to a whole other collection of possible issues and you can get them discussed in the All Things Root subforum.

If you hold down the Power button a pop-up dialog box will appear. At the bottom of the dialog box are three icons that control volume and vibrate. From left to right they are ...

Volume Off and Vibrate Off
Volume Off and Vibrate On
Volume On and Vibrate Off

Click one ... it is selected ... and the dialog box disappears.

With Ice Cream Sandwich I never thought about the battery. I put my Bionic in the charger every night as I turned in and it was always charged.

After upgrading to Jelly Bean I noticed that I was not making it through the day.

Recently someone asked about options in Developer options and I went to check mine. I saw that Developer options was ON and nothing was selected.

I turned it OFF. The next three days battery life was like ICS.

I turned it ON today. Battery life was awful again.

Conclusion ... something is turning on Developer options and Developer options is the cause of the battery drain.

I have a .mp3 sound that I use as my default notification. It is fact the notification sound form the iPhone (there had to be something in the iPhone that I like).

In Jelly Bean I was constantly loosing the notification assignment and it would go back to unknown.

The .mp3 file was on my SD-Ext card in a folder called Notifications.

I moved the file to a folder on my SD card called Notifications and am no longer getting it unassigned.

For those of us that are rooted, developer options (specifically USB debugging) is a good idea to keep active, correct?
 
You need to post that question in the All Things Root subforum.

In the case I was stating ... Developer options was turned on and NOTHING was selected. I assume if you need one of the options on then you will have Developer options on.

Just for kicks you could turn Developer options off and see what your battery life is like.

It's generally require *in order to root*, but I turned off USB debugging after I have root and the phone runs fine. I've read before that Titanium requires USB debugging on, but it works fine (to restore apps) on my phone with debugging off.

With debugging on, your phone is a lot less secure - just as you can access it with ADB, so could anybody else who might steal/find your phone. In addition to the battery drain problem that Thom discovered...

This is what I thought. I remember reading it was a good idea to keep it on just in case something happened and you needed to do some emergency fixing. However, that was back in the days of the OG Droid and constantly changing ROMS some of which were not, how should we say, ... stable.

I'll turn mine off and give it a shot.
 
Safe Mode in Jelly Bean disables all third-party apps that you added without uninstalling or freezing. This can give you an indication of hardware problem or added app problem. (Some of the widget on your home screen may need to be reestablished after you use Safe Mode.)

To enter Safe Mode ...
Press Power button
Dialog appears - long press Power off
Reboot to safe mode dialog appears - select OK
It will reboot into Safe Mode ("Safe mode" in lower left corner)

To exit Safe Mode ...
Press Power button
Dialog appears - press Power off
Press Power button
