I finally took the plunge and bought a keep today and I haven't put it down for the past 6 hours (i rhink my gf is a little pissed!).

Best thing? The awesome keyboard!

The app store is a little un-intuitive, but I hear that will be fixed when 2.0 drops.

Is there any info on when HTC may have 2.0 ready? also can anyone point me to full change for the eclair update?
 
Any updates should be free. No date on when its available but HTC say they are working on it.
 
HTC did confirm they are working on the Eclair update via a Tweet for the HTC Hero:

The rumors are true! Hero will be getting an Eclair update. We ask for your patience as we update Sense for the fancy new Android OS.

Sorry if this is incredibly obvious (I'm a Hero newbie) but what is Eclair?! With regards to updates, will Orange (my provider) let me know when there are updates available or do I need to find out myself?

Yes it will, that's why we are waiting for it. 2.0 is already out, we are justt waiting for HTC to make it play nice with the sense UI

Eclair is the internal codename for the 2.0 version of the Android operating system. Google always name there updates after cakes, 1.5 was cupcake and 1.6 was donught. I think orange updates are released through the HTC website so you'll have to find it and apply it manually, although if you keep your eye on the forums, you know the second it is out :D
