Power adapter

Interesting, really. Who would have thunk. There are a lot of aftermarket iPad chargers out there. I am kind of leary of the Samsung cable because I saw a demo model in Staples where the cord was completely and utterly destroyed. I'm not sure how much abuse the cord takes but I hate to take chances.

Next question, if the power adapter that comes with the iPad 3 works to charge the Galaxy Note 10.1, will dock devices meant for the iPad 3 work with the Galaxy Note?

It is obvious the dock will not work. I have had a Tab 10.1 and Note 10.1 for almost 2 years now and using the same cable to charge have not noticed any wear on it. Buy accessories that are dedicated for this device or if you prefer accessories over the deivce maybe buy an iPad.

Maybe it's just me but the cable that is for ipads doesn't seem to fit on my Note 10.1. I haven't tried forcing it but I really don't think it is the same. The plug part that goes into the wall may work but I don't think the cables are interchangeable. Does anyone else know if this is true?

These are completely different cables.

As Szadik said, but not really cable (rather than connector head).

Don't know if I can describe this, but here goes.

The iPad and Note 10.1 both have a 30 pin connector. However, the pins and locking mechanism have different physical alignments. Put the cables on top of each other and they match exactly (size, shape and form). However, take a closer look at where the contact pins connect and you'll notice one is lined across the bottom and the other is across the top. They are incompatible in that sense.

Edit: Even if they did fit, they probably have the pins mapped differently from each other.

Hi

What I meant was the bit that plugs into the wall then you plug the usb charging cable into the usb socket that's in the wall plug adapter. I was just wondering if the wall plug usb adapter is suitable to charge the Galaxy Note 10.1

Here's a pick of what I mean.

The answer is yes. It is usb in its outlet. You can verify the amperage, as it should be listed on the adapter. They should be the same. The power adapter cord may be another matter, as mentioned the pin assignment may be different from the ipad. :hmmmm:

Please don't take that I'm interested in accessories over the wonderful functioning of the Note 10.1. Why would I ever want to switch to an iCrapple product.

I'm just annoyed at how everything is "i" this and "i" that. I just thought it would be an ironic twist if the 30 pin connectors were somehow compatible and would work.

I have a love of making things work in ways that they weren't intended to. It was just a curiosity.

As BremenCole stated
I stand by my answer above. YES!

The AC adaptor would work, provided the pin layout is the same, and it is not. It will charge with the Note off.

So the answer is NO. Ipad charger cannot charge the Note. In fact, even a Universal Samsung Charger won't charger a note. I found that out tonight. The guy that sold me the Note yesterday forgot to give me a charger so I had to get one today. Nobody carried it. Walmart, Target, Best buy, Radio Shack. All they had was I-this and I-that. Obviously I was annoyed. I had an Ipad charger at work, which I just ordered for my boss. I think it's an Ipad 2 and I know for a fact that won't plug into the Note.

So I bought a universal RocketFish charger that's compatible with Samsung tablets. It fits. The screen lit up, but it wasns't charging. After a few minutes of use, it powered down saying I need to plug in a charger.

So now, I'll just wait for the ones I ordered on Ebay to arrive.

Any charger will work if you turn the Note off, just as I mentioned in one of my posts above.

I can verify that chargers designed for the Note 10.1 will charge while plugged in. I have a non-USB hard wired charger that I got from eBay several months ago and it charges faster than the modular charger that came with the tablet. However, every other charger (USB Type) that I have used will only show the battery icon with the red X. However, I can leave the tablet plugged in for hours with no draining of the battery at all, it just doesn't charge. It does the same thing when plugged into the computer, red X but doesn't drain and doesn't charge.

I've been using a Rocketfish charging cable I bought at Best Buy with the original power adapter on my Galaxy Tab 10.1 for about a month . Works just fine.

Red X on the battery means you are slow charging. Yes you can still charge, but there are broken / snapped wires. I would say it's either green or white wire or both. I'm having the same issue and cracked open the charging usb cable port and found out that 2 wires broke. After I've done some soldering it works normally. I'm able to connect to my pc and charge using the wall outlet perfectly. No more issues.

But for those who are facing things like unable to connect to pc or your pc doesn't recognize ur device, get a new usb cable. Issues vary, some might have bad charging port etc. For charging issues it might be the battery, charging port, charging adaptor or the cable. But most of the time it's the cable. Inside the usb cable consist of 4 wiring colors. Red and black are for power (to charge your device) while green and white are for data transfer. These 2 wires (green and white) are smaller in size and pretty easy to snap.

You are very wrong.

It is welll documented that Samsung use a different pin layout in their chargers and cables and that is why you cannot use 3rd party chargers. Maybe you had yours broken, but 99% cases like that just mean incompatibillity and not enough Amperage.

I didn't know that this device didn't use a micro USB cable.

Interesting.

Interesting.

Not e10.1 uses a 30-pin cable.

But even for S4, pin layout is different and the original cble can deliver more power to the phone than 3rd party cables.

Micro USB cables are standard. Some cables change impedance to provide more current from a charger, or the charger with short the data pins to force the device into high current charging but the pins aren't different - you'd never connect to a pc if they were.

Is shortcutting not the same as changing pin layout?

If you mean shorting the data pins, it's a pretty standard technique for non-Apple chargers. I get mine from monoprice.com that way. Basically all high end Androids respond to it.

Problem is a lot of junk on the market is really not marked properly.

But for something like this device with a non-standard plug, I agree, can't go wrong sticking with the Samsung charger.
