Power button - deal breaker?

One of the BIG little things I like about my Incredible is that I can remove it from my hip holster with my right hand and power it up in one motion so that by the time the phone's in front of me, it's ready to go. Upon further investigation and tinkering with the Rezound, I see that the power button is VERY flushly inset and it not nearly as easy to engage. I have read one reviewer who says that he fails to power on (and off) his Rezound nearly 50% of the time upon first attempt!

With that said, would you guys and gals have a suggestion for me? I've read about the WidgetLocker app and others like it - any good? Or, is there some type of "shake to wake" app? If nothing else - what is YOUR take on the effectiveness of the Rezound's power button?

I REALLY don't want to, but I might be forced to wait for the next HTC phone to come along to VZW if I can't resolve this!!! Much thanks to all of you in advance for any suggestions and advice! :)
 
No way I'm that impatient when it comes to powering up a device, especially when you consider the alternatives being the Nexus. I'll take a flush power button over poor signal reception every time. That being said, if the power button is that big of a deal to you I'd suggest getting the Otterbox Defender series. There's no problem for me engaging the power button when the phone is inside my case.
 
If you are going to use a case for the phone the notch in the case for the power button helps guide your finger. I am using the Verizon tpu black silicone case with the extended battery and it works for me. The volume rocker is another story. With this case I find it hard to find and operate. Hopefully with time I will learn a better technique.

I too came from the Dinc and was running it naked for the past year. One thing you will not have with the Rezound that I had with the Dinc was accidentally hitting these buttons.
 
I do have problems pushing the power button and I also, quite often, accidentally push the volume button while trying to push the power button (because of the way I hold the phone which has no case). However, although a very minor annoyance, this phone is so worth the benefits. Any phone you get is going to have something that is annoying and I choose to ignore this inconvenience.
 
I just got my Rezound yesterday and I don't really have a problem with the power button, doesn't seem that much different from my Evo 4G so maybe I'm used to it. The volume rocker is another story but if I use my thumb to feel for the edges then I don't have a problem using it. I think it's just something that will take getting used to. For the $99 I paid neither is a deal breaker for me.
 
I LOVE the flush keys. I know I'm in the minority but I have my screen to never time out and every phone I've ever owned has turned itself on in my pocket. Not the rezound. I've missed the button on occasion but I have no problem nine times out of ten and find it to be an acceptable trade off. I wish all phones had buttons like this.

I am with you here, I like them too. No pocket dialing, and so far no accidental volume changes. If you don't like it get a case with molded in buttons. The incipio i use with stock battery has them and it makes it very easy to turn on. I still never get accidental turn on with it either.
 
I personally love the flush buttons... They are snug and don't rattle at all! People complain about rattles so HTC puts out a phone that doesn't rattle... Then people complain about flush snug buttons.. WE CANT have it both ways people!! Sorry bout the rant lol but yeah I love the buttons on the rezound they were one of the reasons I wanted it.
 
It's funny. My first rezound had a really nice power button. After reading the reviews I couldn't understand what all the hype was about. Right when verizon had that first 4G outage, I went to a store to find out why the rezound was having problems connecting to the network.

The clueless rep was asked if there was a problem with the network. He said no and proceeded to change my sim card. He then replaced my device. This second rezound has a slightly more flush button. But it's ok. It's actually fine with me. You get use to it.

The best part is I dropped my first rezound. It had a minor nick on the edge of the phone. Not a big deal. So I ended up with a new rezound. Didn't ask for it, but happy nonetheless.
 
To the OP, I can tell you with 100% confidence that your power button operation will get better over time. When I first got the ReZound I a little trouble finding/pushing the power button as well. Now I could do it in my sleep. I don't even notice the flush power button anymore and not having to worry about it rattling is a nice bonus in my opinion. I'm sure if you give it some time or maybe look into one of the cases suggested to you it will be just fine.
 
For a little thinner case, than the defender, the otterbox commuter works very well at raising both the power and volume buttons. Plus the added protection is nice to.
 
One word- sugru. It is a siliconeish,clay-like stuff that sticks and hardens and fixes all sorts of stuff. One tiny dab of it makes the power button as unflush a you please. Google it, they have a great website with tons of uses.

I have the otterbox defender case,i like everything about it,except the screen does not look as nice as it does without it,what is the differences between the defender series and the commuter other then the price.

RTV silicone would likely work as well. Personally, I'm more in favor of just using the buttons a few days. They sure don't bother me at all now but did a bit at first.
