Root Power Button Issue PLS help!!!

NickGee

Lurker
Just bought a used samsung captivate and I love it but one issue. Here is the issue---

The power button on the side activates if you just brush your finger against it...You don't even have to push it in. I didn't think this would be an issue except when it's in my pocket the screen constantly turns on and off. So my battery gets destroyed throughout the day. If I just leave it on the counter or table the battery will last a very long time. I know nothing about this phone so I don't even know if its supposed to do that.

The person that owned it prior has put different software on it. Here is what it reads in the settings:

Firmware- 2.3.3
Build # - Mosaic IV
Kernel Version - 2.6.35.7-I9000XWJVH-CL184813
reorient_G #14

This is my first droid phone and I know nothing about updating the firmware or troubleshooting or anything like that. I don't mind setting it back to its original software if it will fix this problem. I would also need to know how to do that...lol...But Thank you for reading and if anyone needs anymore info let me know...and I will do my best. If I cannot get this problem fixed I will be going back to my iPhone and I dont want to do that. Thank you for reading.

Sounds like a hardware problem. Resident firmware / software doesn't control the sensitivity of the power button.

I was afraid of that...hopefully Its something different because I do not know if that can't be fixed. Thanks for your help.

A longshot would be to blast the power button using a can of compressed air, from the outside and from within. Maybe there's something lodged behind it that's shortening the throw and creating the sensitivity.

Nick did you ever figure out what the issue was? I just started having the EXACT same problem a few days ago and it is driving me nuts and killing my battery.
