Help power button not working

I stupidly dropped my phone in the bath about a week ago :S somehow by somewhat of a miracle, the phone is absolutely perfect still... Accept the power button. There's no water damage to screen or anything. The phone automatically turns on when I put the battery in, and also when the battery dies it keeps trying to switch it self back on as if I'm pressing the power button. But when the phone is on it doesn't do anything. So I have had to download an app to be able to use the volume button to get the screen on again and also a power off app to make it switch off instead of waiting for it to time out.

Is this fixable? And would it be worth getting fixed? I.e would it cost loads? Debating on wether to contact HTC and asking them to check it out. I know the warranty wouldn't cover it as its been plunged but would they charge way too much?

It sounds like it's still a little wet and by using it in it's current state you could be doing irreversible damage. Your best bet would be to place the phone in a box of rice and store for at least 48 hours before trying to turn it on again.

Generally water damage isn't fixable so instead of trying to sort it through HTC, do you have insurance at all?

I would recommend taking the phone in to your local repair center (Assuming you do have insurance). Let them know that the power button isn't working. Faith will take it from there. Don't asked don't tell policy.

Unfortunately, the first thing they'll see when they take the phone apart is the bright red water damage indicators. I think one of them is right next to one of the main screws holding the phone together so it's unmissble.

Yeah, there's one on the battery and what looks like another one under the screw in the battery compartment (the same screw with the VOID sticker on it).

Thanks for the replies, yeah I figured they would have indicators and know straight away that it had been dunked. No, unfortunatly no insurance. I've tried the rice thing but if I'm honest i didnt leave it for 48 hours as I'm addicted to my phone! Would it really be worth doing now? Someone mentioned cat litter to me as well? (clean obviously!)

There's no harm in giving it a shot. You're only exacerbating any issues now by using it when it's still potentially wet.

Cat litter might also do the trick, it's probably more absorbent than rice. Come to think of it, I think that's what I used when my old LG Viewty took a dip in the sink.
