Help Power button replacement

The power button on my Note 2 stopped working. Does anyone have a link to a how to diy repair. Also, I've never tried a phone repair, should I take it to a phone repair shop instead of doing it myself? Repair shops are asking $50.
Thank you in advance.

Hi Brian,

Who is your provider? When did you purchase it? If it's out of warrantee I would still reach out to Samsung directl, if you are not paying for coverage with your provider. Power buttons should no break under normal use...
I wouldn't trust a 3rd party repair shop unless they are approved by Samsung.

Onemat, I have had 5 replacement Note 2 phones from Best Buy over the past 16 months. I bought the Best Buy replacement plan so I used them for the repairs. Each time I received a replacement, I had a new/different problem from the unit that it replaced. I'm thinking that Best Buy repair has not been doing a good job on the repairs and i have been receiving whatever problem the last person had. Best Buy has shown back ordered on the Note 2 for 2 weeks. My current phone, I had had for 4 days when the power button went inoperable. I am an RC hobbiest, so I am alright with rebuilding things and thought I would see if the power button is something I might tackle myself.

Meanwhile, you could use a soft power button like this one.
Thank you sir. I just loaded the app and I will use it and for a while to see how it does for me.
I am still curious if changing the button is something that I can tackle.
Does anyone have a link for changing the power button on a Note 2?

Hi Losi B.
I don't know if Best Buy actually does the service work on cell phones or not. But if you payed for the plan they need to make it right. I worked in Consumer electronics many years ago, and in the early days of box stores, they farmed out the specialty repairs. I would email Samsung Customer support and copy Bestbuy support. I would call Best Buy support but not in the store you are dealing with. I would call a National consumer line.
It's funny you mentioned Best Buy might giving you suspect phones. I just bought my Note 2 from them last week. They've got them really cheap now (49.99). It came in the white Samsung Box but it did not have the photo on top like the earlier boxes did. There was a small sharpie mark on one side of the box. I wondered if it was a reconditioned phone that I was receiving but they said it was a new, and a never used phone. So far mine is operating wel, but I wonder. Let us know how you make out on this issue.

You're welcome, It simply gives you a widget that simulates the Lock Screen when clicked.

To shutdown your device simply pull out the battery.
To turn on your device follow this video instructions.

Oh wow, I didn't know you could actually turn on the Note II without the power button! My niece's Note II had the same power button problem and she was using the app to turn on/off the screen until one time she accidentally turned off the phone. She had to send it back to Samsung for warranty repair.. took about 10 days.

Hi J.
Thanks for this video. Which screen off ap do youo like? I figure if I use it to shut the screen off I'm saving wear on the power button. It seems to me that anything mechanical on the phone such as the power button ought to be a high quality to guard against failure.

Pardon me, but what does "Hi J." mean?

This one. I tried a lot and most of them will swallow your battery like a hungry zombie. But this one does the job perfectly, and yes it's free.

This is 100% true, I had a Note 1. After 14 months of use the power button stopped working so I had to sell it for a low price because it was repaired. If I just used a soft power button from the beginning I could have kept it for 14 months more.
