Help Power Button Sticking/Not Working

Well, after 8 months of damn near perfection, my Incredible is exhibiting its first physical problem. My power button has stopped working about 70% of the time. Basically, it either has no effect when pressed or, if I'm trying to sleep the phone, the Power Off menu comes up (presumably because the button is sticking long enough for the phone to thing it was long pressed).

I have tried it with and without my high gloss silicone case, and there is no difference. My screen doesn't turn on or off after pressing the power button until I hit it a number of times at different angles.

Anyone else experience this? If so, any solutions? Do I have to bring it back to Verizon? Anyone who has had this problem and brought it to Verizon care to share how Verizon responded?

Thanks!

never had this problem personally, but I think I remember reading it here before...if you have the extended warranty you should go get a replacement. I wouldn't recommend spraying any chemicals in there to try and loosen it up or anything. Maybe some compressed air? Or last resort would be to file an insurance claim if you have it.

Are you using the 2150 extended battery? The back that came with that can make it harder to press the power button. Some people filed the cutout down a bit to help with that. At any rate, I wonder if modifying/replacing the battery cover would help your problem - maybe the button is just hanging up on the edge of the cutout.

I'm using an HTC 1500 mAh battery with the original back. Before going to Verizon, I decided to try using paper to stick down around the power button and clean out any junk, and then a tweezer. It didn't seem to help at first, but now a couple days later, the power button is back to its old self. I believe the phone has a one year warranty, so I'll hold off for now since other than this sticking problem, my phone's been flawless. Also, they are usually pretty adamant about you being able to reproduce the problem before they give you a new one.

Thanks for the suggestions. If anyone else has had this experience with the stock back and found a solution, I'd love to hear it in case the problem does come back.

I'm going through the same problem right now. I took my phone up to Verizon on day #2 of the issue and they told me that sometimes the power button just stops working. I was sent a replacement phone (refurbished) because the phone is still under warranty. I got the phone back in Feb 2010 so I was surprised the warranty was still good!

However, right after I took the phone to Verizon it started working again. I'm now stuck in the dilemma of keeping my phone or keeping the refurbished phone. Any suggestions? Did you continue to have issues?
