Good morning ya'll :)

I've bought a Galaxy Tab 2 7" while I was away on holiday on the US. Once I got back I noticed that it seemed anytime I charged my GT I would get a noticeable increase on my electric bill... I use my iphone charger, since I don't have the adapter to connect to a EU plug. Any ideas about this? Should it happen?

Also, when I charge my GT it doesn't show the charging icon as one would expect... The icon is just the battery with a bolt inside but with a red X over it. It still charges, regardlessly, but takes quite a while. If I start charging at around midnight and wake up around 8 it will have charged somewhere between 70% to 80%. Is this common?

That is all, thanks for your time :)

No , you shouldn't notice any change in your electric bill.
Your best bet is to use the OEM cable and plug with an appropriate converter. A converter s/b pretty cheap.
Are you getting the red x while you're charging from a USB port on your computer? That's normal, and very slow, not really recommended.

I use the cable that came with in the box as I don't have any other with that same entry to the GT. But I'll buy a converter as they're pretty cheap on Ebay. I just thought it might have something to do with voltage differences between EU and the US and somehow it was affecting my electric bill

As for the red X, I get it when connected to the my comp or when charging with the iphone's charger or some other chargers that have a usb port to connect the cable. I believe only one charger hasn't shown me the red X, this one

Thanks for the reply :)

The red X is telling you that the tablet is only charging at a low current rate (< 0.5a) because it thinks it is connected to a computer USB port (USB 1.1 spec limits current draw to 0.5a).

In order to get a faster charge, the device needs to detect a short between the two data lines, and it will pull closer to 1a of current. Apple chargers do not provide this short on their data lines because an Apple device looks for specific voltages on each line compared to the power - wire (as I recall), but most Android compatible chargers will do so.

A factory-issued 2a charger also adds a specific voltage to the data lines which infomrs the device that it can draw up to 2a for a fast charge.

There are adapters which can fool the Galaxy tab into thinking it is connected to a factory charger.
