Verizon Note 3 - Finally upgraded to KitKat. Odd problem now. Everytime I power on my phone, the lock screen appears and screen stays on until I use the pattern unlock.

That is really strange, however, there are known issues after upgrading to a new version of Android on the Note 3 and other devices.
Even though they don't suggest a factory reset, it usually is just a smart idea to work out those pesky bugs.
Back everything up and restore, and I will guarantee that this issue will more than likely disappear.
