I have fast boot unchecked, but power save on. With fast boot enabled my TWRP2 could not be started (from the stock ROM). With Zr3dx you should be able to select a reboot to recovery, so fast boot would not be much of a handicap now.
The fast boot settings pref means that when you shut off the phone it will hibernate (or sleep) so that when you "start" it again you'll be back at the launcher quicker. Completely different from fastboot when talking about recovery. And of course completely confusing because of that.
Short version... Avoid the settings fast boot option and keep it turned off.
Interferes with some apps and roms. All it is basically is a warm boot, closes open apps and brings you back to the launcher. If you're in that much of a hurry just use task manager to kill apps, if you're rebooting it's because you want to be in recovery or you're having an issue, a warm boot won't work for this. Much better and easier to just do a full cold boot.
