Accessories powermat

You got the powermat from Bestbuy? I was very interest when I heard the news. Would you mind providing impressions? Is there a new custom battery cover for the back? New battery? How much bulk does it add to the phone?

I'm curious because I'd like to get it plus a spare mat (one for home, one for work). I'd also still like to use my fortte case with it, and I'm concerned if it added too much bulk (back, sides), it will no longer fit the case.

The specs say the max output current is 1A, output voltage is 18VDC. Don't know what that means, exactly.

It looks like the it's just a new battery cover, from the pic it doesn't seem to add thickness since the camera bezel looks to protude the same, and the kickstand is flush. I'm mostly concerned with the little tab at the bottom, I'm assuming it's plugged into the micro usb port. So how much does that tab at the bottom stick out? Can you still use the usb plug to say hook your phone to your computer, or do you have to remove the cover/tab to use it?

Found this review, from the pics, the backplate cover does indeed look thicker, the kickstand is no longer flush, but recessed instead. The micro-usb tab looks like it can be pulled out, but one would have to remove the entire backplate cover to plug the micro-usb into say a computer, or use the stock usb-charger.
 
Ok went out yesterday and bought one at BB. Easy to set up, at first the handshake method was off a little and did not charge my phone. After learning to align my phone and mat it was perfect. This only took about 5 minutes to perfect this, the issue seemed to be the case. I have the Otterbox so today's project was modifying the case to fit the backdoor replacement door to accommodate the plug. An hour later everything looks and works great, I can also use my Seido holster if needed.

Can you take a picture of how you phone looks in the case after your modifications?

+1 for this. I have the otterbox commuter case and cannot get it to fit. Please let us know what mods you made.
 
Ok, so how do I plug in my regular mini-usb cable for charging in the car, etc? Will it work with my silicone case on it? $60 seems like a lot when it just takes about 1/2 a second to plug the darn thing in.
 
Pics as promised. Tried using the Powermat backplate as a templete before I Dremeled but.... fail on my part I cut off to much on one side. It doesn't bother me this is my 2nd Otterbox case the camera lens cutout is off on this one and got tired of trying to exchange it.

Other than a certain coolness factor, what does this do for you?

1) You have to take the battery cover off to use the mini usb. How do you charge in your car?
2) If you are like me, you charge your phone in your office and your bedroom. Are you going to buy 2?
3) If you are talking on the phone (unless using a bluetooth headset) , the phone isn't charging while it would be if you were plugged in.
4) Is plugging in your phone really that hard?
 
I had the touchstone with my Pre and loved it. Its the only thing about it that I miss.

If they were to come up with inductive charging through the battery cover I would be all over it.
 
I dont like the power mat. I dont like how after the battery is fully charged it cuts off the power to the battery. I like to pick up my phone and have a full charge. Last night i woke up in the middle of the night a couple times and noticed it drained some battery. Also I dont know about it because I am getting the ballistic case and to have this and the case im sure I would have to do quite a bit of modding which defeats the purpose of the case if you ask me. Does anyone else have the problem with the phone stop charging?
 
I bought a Powermat over the weekend at BB and have had nothing but issues with it charging my phone. It starts out charging my phone, but at some point stops and I've picked my phone up on several occasions and the battery is completely dead. I've email Powermat about this issues and so far no response. Maybe I have a defective unit.
 
I'll wait til it comes with the phone. 60 dollars to charge one phone is outrageous, and I agree with mitchellvii for the .3 seconds a day it saves me, it has a lot of problems.
 
I recently made several mods to my evo including:
3500mah battery and extended cover
modified tpu case to fit the extended cover
powermat receiver hardwired so you dont need the usb plug adapter

I am also having the problem as mentioned above with my powermat shutting off and during the night the battery fully discharges, even before any mods and using the stock battery. One thing I noticed today while at work and my evo plugged into the usb and charging from aout 45% was when it reached about 65%, it stopped charging. the battery app i was watching showed it was still plugged in but the system info battery status says discharging. i left it alone and after a few minutes it began to charge again to 100% where the battery status reports full. Dont know what thats all about but I wonder if this quick discharge cycle (maybe to let the battery cool?) is whats shutting off the powermat and when it resumes, the powermat has no way of knowing.

any comments or questions?

The most recent Android 2.3.3 (gingerbread) as of mid July 2011 solves the charging problem with powermat.

apparently not for you. But I've been using one with my iphone for months. Going back to droid and escaping the iCult. I take my phone off at night and put it on the powermat by my bed. Take it off the next morning. No other clarging needed, never plug it in. --Jerry
