Help pre-installed apps wont uninstall

qiuyue

Lurker
I live in China, therefor bought my Gio there. It came with a page full of QQ related apps that I cannot remove... Not only do they take up space, I'm also aware this is a very good way to get personal information from people (Call me paranoid, I've lived in this country too long not to be.)

Can anyone tell me how to remove them?? I"ve tried a hard reset, they are pre-installed, and going to 'Manage apps' doesnt help, the uninstall button is shaded (unclickable)

So... anyone know what to do?

While I'm at it... my computer wont recognize my phone and even though I switch languages, I cant seem to get an English Android market (I'm fluent in Chinese, but the idea of being able to deal everythign in English would make my day...)

The trick to get rid of unwanted bloatware is to root the phone (be carefull some of the Gio are not easy to root and can brick if not correctly rooted) and use titanium backup (your phone needs to be rooted for this) to save them to sd card the uninstall them from the phone, it works well and since they are saved on the sd card, if anything doesn't work like it should, you can reinstall them quickly.

I can't really help you for rooting the phone since there's many version of the samsung Gio and the procedure is different for some of them.

Thanks, I will look into that! Can't wait to be able to access a non-chinese android account... and stop having all these programs running all the time even though I keep shutting them down. It slows down my phone like crazy!!!

Download Root Explorer and go into system/app
Delete the preinstalled apps including their own .odex

There are two files in that directory .apk and .odex for each program ...... does both files have to get deleted? Can this also be done for Gmail?

thanks
