Prediction: Bionic will have dual 1.2GHz

BlueBiker

Even before the premature confirmation of Verizon SGS2 having LTE, I thought Bionic would have a hard time competing at its originally spec'ed 1GHz this late in the game. Now after seeing all of the "Wow, Bionic is dead for sure!" messages, I'm convinced that Motorola must have been watching the whole time as SGS2 racked up five million sales.

So my prediction is that Bionic will be 1.2GHz at release. Anybody else agree?

I'm going to have to side with you. I cant imagine Moto delaying this thing for this long to release a Atrix for verizon...Mistake any non valid points or grammatical errors, for this device has me out drinking nightly :-)

Posting from my buggy Droid X!

I think so to. I have read a few articles speculating the same thing. Motorola will have screwed up big if they have waited this long to put out something that's not top of the line.

The Bionic has the 4430, so will not be clocked at 1.2ghz out of box. Enough leaks have happened to support that is the chipset. If that is not valid, then the rumors of an impending release are also incorrect, since part of same info stream of leaks.

The Bionic core will be an even better version of the already great D3. Motorola would be silly to not leverage a volume purchase from TI for the 4430 chipset, rather than two seperate chips.

The Bionic will already have a power hungry LTE chipset, 4.3" display and a 1ghz dual core using 45nm. Seems that a 1.2ghz chipset would be jumping on an already challenged battery life bridge.

The droid x isn't buggy on liquid 2.3, it runs faster than most dual-core phones now.

Agreed. Unless they recently switched to faster OMAP 4460, getting higher clock speed is unlikely and that would tax on already strained battery.

Good points. I didn't know how much to believe those leaks.

Yes, if they're convinced it results in a viable product.

The whole point of the (presumed) Pentile display is to save power, and if SGS2 can do all of that at 1.2GHz (assuming LTE), why couldn't Bionic?

But you have to realize that power consumption on both chip (OMAP4, Exynos) is different even at the same frequency as their design/manufacturing is different. I guess Exynos is probably a little more efficient in power consumption, so it has some room to bump up clock speed.

Anyway overall battery life is sum of all things (display, processor, radios, etc). If they want to bump up clock frequency of OMAP4 in Bionic, something else has to trade off but I don't see what that can be.

Not to mention the grand assumption is the Samsung has LTE in the first place. My guess is we will see a non-LTE version first and then another version next spring with integrated second generation LTE.

Either that, or we will see an LTE version much later on this year with a newer chipset. Maybe that is why VZW pushed Samsung back. VZW could be forcing them to add LTE, since the SGS2 is expected to sell a lot of devices and VZW wants it to help push LTE usage.

I think it's more important for Bionic to get long and stable battery life with LTE rather than to compete in processing power. I can care less about topping benchmark scores if it can last longer and download faster than other phones. Even at 1Ghz, dual core OMAP4 should be plenty fast with 1Gb RAM.

Fair enough. I also realize there's a lot more to performance than just clock rate.

That's all true, but I think Bionic is the image phone for Moto so they want it to be class leading. But if Rushmore is correct, then 4430 won't do 1.2GHz w/o overclocking.

That prediction is wrong. It will be a good phone though. Better battery life than Charge or Thunderbolt.

It will be 4.3" Screen.

Could you please support your arguments instead of making a statement and then moving to another thread to state a few more statements?

Anyway, Nobody understands why the Bionic keeps getting delayed, and delayed, and delayed. I really hope that they have overhauled the thing to the maximum that they could.

The Bionic also prints money and cooks you breakfast in the morning. Book it.
Cute. :)

LTE not an easy nut to crack . . . keep in mind that this is a totally new technology and the first generationally new phone modem that anybody's seen in at least 5 years (since 3G) . . . see issues w/ TB and Charge.

(Wimax much easier than LTE)

Why release a new LTE device before it's ready, there's already 2 predecessors that have done that.

Thank you for the support for your statement. That's all I ask for.
