Help predictive text

Hi, new to the forum and had my lg about a month. I am only able to get the android qwerty keyboard up on text messaging and would like to use a normal phone keypad with predictive text, is there anyway of doing this one the LG Optimus one phone. If so how do I do it, please be gentle and explain any steps that I need to do as sometimes I am hard of thinking.
I did wonder if I had to remove android keyboard from my applications but got worried when it said that all info and data would then be removed, does that effect the rest of the running of the phone, didn't want to delete it just in case I mucked phone up.

Bottom left of the keyboard is a little cogwheel icon

Press that -> keypad types -> phone keyboard
