hi guys,

so im running viper and loving it still ..... but now my appetite is wetted ;)
has anyone moved from viper to another rom and liked it more? ... and if so why?

cheers

dan,
any luck on transferring apps from the device storage to the sd card? looks like some can be transferred over quite easily but for others it's greyed out. also, the strange thing is that even when you transfer over to sd card, it seems to leave some data on the phone and transfer some over. the other odd thing is that the sum of the 2 parts is bigger than the amount of storage the app uses just being left on the device....
confused? I am...as usual.
sorry if this is off topic

thanks EM - yeah ES is my goto file manager app - obviously with root mode ;) pretty sure that will allow coping files to external - if not, then i used the Xposed mod that allows writing to the sd card - worked well with my picture app also (quickpic)

....sorry sl - ive not had time to play with it yet - my space issue are purely down to my nandroid and titanium backups :)

cheers

ooooo......nasty - just found your comment EM - ive use ES for ages too :/
....better get it removed asap! :D

cheers

......saying that - as i dont use their cloud stuff, is it still a risk - still not keen on keeping the app onboard now i know though - whats the best root exp. to go for then ?

......ok, have gone for X-plore .... how does copy paste work? :/ it seems to just auto copy the selected file somewhere :/ odd

.....panic over :D figured it - you select each folder in different window and then if does the copy immediately between the too - writes to external ok ;)

thanks EM

Check out "Android Firewall"

Just like that. ;)

Yessir, this will weigh heavily on any future device purchases.

No root=No Sale.

I did find a no-root app that may help control permissions/access, simply called "PERMISSION MANAGER".

Seemed functional, but, I'm not sure on the actual effectiveness.

I'll edit this post w/a link to the app, BRB.....

Here it is:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ovmobile.appopslauncher&hl=en

The problem is that not all permissions work the way they sound.

(Generally speaking) It's reasonable for apps to have many parts, we call them threads. Music player - user interface thread, WIFI thread, audio playback thread, etc etc etc. It's why Android automagically multitasks so well. There are standard ways for the threads to talk to one another. And also, threads can instead follow the desktop model and use networking to talk to each other, without going out to the actual network. Or, talk to other apps or processes that way.

So killing network permissions on an innocent app can leave it not working.

And killing networking permissions on a bad app can reel it in.

But how do you know?

It was this same confusion about storage access permissions that put people in a panic until Google locked down sd card access (soon to be internal storage as well) to satisfy security concerns - and really, we're all hating that and getting around it.

So, can that app work? Yes. Does it sound simple? Yes. Is it really? No. You have to understand programming. And make assumptions and test them to get anything right.

Does the firewall seem confusing? Yes. Is it? No. "App XYZ has no business using my network, turn off, the end."

Does it really require root?

It really requires controlled, limited access so a rogue app doesn't get past the configuration file.

And the only way to lock down a file is to put it in a protected area.

And the only way for you to use and change the firewall rules in a protected file is with root - just exactly like you need admin privileges on a pc to change its firewall, and for the same reasons.

Yes, the firewall ought to be part of stock Android.

And so should root.

Been testing functionality of some apps w/the ANDROID FIREWALL app.
As you noted,ya just have to go through each & every one of 'em to find what they need & if it's something one deems legit.

If the firewall breaks function on an app that IMO doesn't need the access, out the door it goes &/or disabled.

I noticed the PERMISSION MANAGER section in VENOM TWEAKS (on the VIPER ROM).

Between that & ANDROID FIREWALL,just about all bases should be covered.

morning guys,
im still trying to free up some space on my internal storage. ive copied the twrp and titanium back ups to my sd card, my queston being, if I delete them from my internal storage now, will it creates problems?
SL one step behind as always :)

Nope, as long as you copied the whole folders, you'll be fine. :)

You can easily choose which storage to use with TWRP. No worries.

With Titanium Backup, tell it that the backups are on the sd card in settings and then delete. You can delete first and then tell it later where the backups are but I always found that more difficult.

Great. Thanks. I've changed the settings in titanium and I'm assuming from what you've said that I don't need to do anything with twrp until I need to restore from a previous back up at which point I instruct it to search the sd card for it

hi guys,
im guessing the option to external for twrp is in the advance section? is that correct
cheers
