preloaded maps??

I seem to remember when following CES coverage of this phone that it was going to ship with pre loaded maps that did not depend on the cellular network. Are these included somewhere?

From what i know, or think I know, when you use your map, it caches your route and a few alternative routes so while on your journey you don't have to rely on having coverage to load the map as you travel

I thought they wetre a part of the pay to use VZW Navigator bloatware that is on the one and mostly the biggest reason you don't get most of the 8 gig of internal memory on the phone.

This is what I initially thought as well... but I asked a VZN salesman at one of the stores if I could still use the maps if I was in an area that had to tower connection. i.e. No bars on the phone.

He said that I needed to have connection with the network or the maps would not work. I thought I could just load the maps and if I loss connections with the tower, I could still use the GPS maps till I get into coverage again...

I hope the salesman was wrong, cause there are some areas that I do not have any bars on my phone.

The Google Maps that ships on it is better than any carrier bloatware, IMO.
