Premium Email Questions

So what is this "Premium email" business all about then? I have a few questions on email having just got my S2 set-up...

It seems that when I set-up my Yahoo email account, I can select Premium or non-premium. If I do the former, the main difference seems to be that it will use Push email, whereas the latter will do scheduled syncs. That can't be the whole difference though surely?

The only other thing I noticed was that while I could use Premium for Yahoo, I could not for another email account I tried, which is on a domain I own and is hosted through gmail. It seems that in order to enter the relatively custom settings (eg mail server does not ahve anything to do with email domain name) I had to deselect premium and go to manual settings?

Having always had to schedule syncs before, I'm pleased with the idea of Push, but I'm not sure whether there are any genuine bandwidth concerns - any advice on that (i've got 500mb per month)?

I thought about using Push during the day and infrequent scheduled syncs for off-peak, but this doesn't seem to be an option - once I've setup Premium the only choices are Push or Manual? I have the same dilema with my work email, which syncs via exchange activesync, and offers only the same two choices.

Any tips / explanations welcome!

Interesting timing.

I am a little unhappy with the way HTML emails are rendered in the Gmail app, so I was going to try the 'mail' app. Each time I pressed the "?" next to premium, it force-closed the app.

Can I push gmail to this app?

Not tried gmail myself - don't know if it'll force you to sue the gmail app, or lat you run it through the standard mail app.

I've got my old ntlworld email working with the premium account, to my supprise everything was setup automatically which i've not been able to do with any previous phone.

Not sure if that's just because the email app has been updated or if it's down to the premium thingy though, but I'm not complaining as it's working great. :D

I use K-9 with GMail (as well as three other accounts) and it works perfectly.

Ditch both the GMail client and the stock email application and switch to K-9 - it's free (plus no ads) and is a big improvement.
