Preorder Bestbuy

Hmm. What a dilemma. I desperately want that phone. But at that price, I really don't want to deal with my most hated store. They treat their customers like dirt, look it up. Hmmm. Anyway thanks for posting this.

Bestbuy always has preorders, it doesn't mean they are the only company selling the Triumph

Against my better judgement, I made the order. I figure that guarantees me one for now If another retailer, any other retailer, offers pre-orders, I will cancel and order there.

That's a little steeper price than I was hoping for. But... I still might go for it when better reviews come out.

HOLD UP! you can pre-order this on bestbuy's site... but they have this as an 800Mhz cpu not 1Ghz... it this a typo on bestbuys site or is this really only an 800 Mhz phone?

oh I'm giddy.... I just *pre* ordered mine..... hehehehe

I'm sure it's just a typo I'm sure, don't worry.

I don't go through another Optimus V nightmare of searching to find a merchant who has one in stock. I have a feeling they're going to be VERY difficult to get, and a lot more people will be switching over to VM... Watch those stocks!

If you wait a little bit the price will drop $50 like the intercept did. Target may offer a $20 gift certificate with purchase like they did with the intercept.

it is definitely a 1 GHz cpu phone as i don't think the section stating 800 MHz applies to the cpu since it's under "technology details", which is according to the site is the wireless technology the phone uses, not the speed of it's processor. for instance, the same section for the optimus v states 1900 MHz, not 600 MHz. i could be wrong, but that's what the circumstances appear to be.

Hopefully Virgin/Sprint will be prepared for the extra data traffic this time. I saw what the Optimus v users went through when it first came out. Not pretty.

Yeah, I thought about that too. Once the general public sees this, there will be a rush to get them and get them activated. I remember when I got my OV, everyone was asking me about it. Next thing I knew the price had gone up to $200 and the network was bogged down a lot.

I am lucky to be on WiFi all but a couple of hours a day.

It says 1ghz now.

I doubt that it will sell out on day one at that price, so I'll just pick mine up in the store. Most people are too stuid to buy a prepaid smart phone.

Hell my son keeps his expensive T-Mobile plan after I told him about the OV.

Yeah data service is fungible (except for coverage issues and speed). Might as well pay the cheapest price you can.

Best Buy is selling the phone for $299. So do you think the $299 is a discount price or are you saying you think the phone will sell for $249 when it comes out and that the $299 is the price Best Buy is charging for the convenience of doing a pre-order? Anyone know what Best Buy did in the past with the pre-order for the Optimus V? Did the jack up the price and then when it came out the lowered it and those who pre-ordered the phone needlessly paid an extra $50? The reason why I am asking is Best Buy does charge a restocking fee for pre-orders so returning the phone to get it cheaper somewhere else might not be cost effective. What do y'all think?

I would just wait if you can and pick it up from Target or Radio Shack. I am jumping the gun because I have to have it - my son is getting my OV to replace his phone. I am so tired of his Cricket service which is a hassle every month with their website.

I spoke to a phone guy at Best Buy today, and I called a Best Buy Mobile store. Both told me pretty much the same story:

They still haven't been told the price of the phone yet, and it may not be as high as the $299 shown on the website, both sales guys expect it to be anywhere in the range of $200 to $300, but it could be lower, it could even be higher.

What BB does is put the preorder price as high as they realistically think it might be, or higher than what they expect to sell it at, because if they put a tag of $150 or $200 on it and VM tell them the price is $250, they have to sell it at $150 or $200 to the people who pre ordered it at that price. If they put the price higher, they can lower it and charge everybody the correct lower price, including those who preordered for a higher price. One of them added that if it does end up being higher than $300, say $350, which they both doubted, he said that BB can afford to take a $50 loss at that price.

So basically, even though BB are displaying a $300 price tag, it might not be that much, they're just covering their asses by not displaying a lower price.
