Root Preparing to root

I'm preparing to root my thunderbolt with the one click root process. I just wanted to make a checklist of all the stuff I need before beginning.

1. Fully charged phone
2. The batch of files from xda developers for easy root and s-off (Found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1005292)

Is that pretty much all I need? I looked through these forums and xda developers forums for about two hours yesterday and that seemed to be all I needed. However, I downloaded htc sync. Is that required?

I saw some things for adb. Do I need that also?

VivaAmor, I did a lot of research in to this before I actually performed the rooting procedure.

Here is the manual root tutorial: (none of the following links belongs to me)

[Exclusive] How To Root The HTC ThunderBolt And Unlock Its Bootloader | Android News, Reviews, Apps, Games, Phones, Tablets, Tips, Mods, Videos, Tutorials - Android Police

Read every single word.

There are video tutorials:
Part 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKPSe12YDxQ
Part 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mc6EMdPpF6o

I suggest watching both of those videos from start to end before actually continuing with anything. Good Luck!

good links. i was a little nervous of the manual way,but it was a minor PITA getting the "easy root" to work. tho im glad to have done it so i can offer some assistance to others trying to use that method, if i had to do it all over i think i would simply do the manual way.

i had seen the first video, and it helped me alot too, even with the easyroot way. i havent watched the second yet,but i will watch it later.

thanks for posting :) definately leave this thread up so others can see the videos.

I saw the videos in some other thread that was posted here. They helped me a great deal too.

Initially, I had planned on doing the auto root but that seemed more error prone than the manual root was.

Missed the video's completely, but was able to root fairly easily with the manual method. First Android phone too...

Read all the steps very carefully.

Double check that you copied each line correctly before hitting enter.

Relax and don't panic. It's easier than you think.

What he said. I probably looked at this board and xda developers for a good six hours preparing to root. Looking back on it, it was such a big waste of time. Just watch these two videos posted above prior to rooting and then follow along step by step and you're golden.

im a little confused why ADB would show up in the device manager... it is not a device. your phone does need to show up in device manager. is this what you mean?

have you got ADB installed?

what happens if you open a command window and type "adb devices" with your phone plugged in?

if it sees your phone, you are ready to go :) if it doesnt, you just need to install drivers.
