Help Preparing to Upgrade to 4.2.2

I am going to upgrade a Tab 2 to 4.2.2. From reading the forums here, it sounds like you need to do a factory reset along with the upgrade.

Do you do the reset and then do the upgrade?

What is the fastest way to back up your apps and app settings? I don't need game history, but would like to have all of the settings for the apps, if possible. Is there a quick way to back all of this up and then restore it after the upgrade? I'll be backing up photos and movies, too, but I can to that fairly easily.

Thanks for your help.

If you don't do a reset AFTER the upgrade, you'll have a really slow/laggy Tab. Found this out myself. After the reset it was much faster.

The "Back up my data" option is supposed to back up data from 3rd party apps, but I didn't use it. It may work very well, but personally I wouldn't rely on it. It probably assumes the authors of all my apps follow strict guidelines regarding data storage location conventions, which can't be assumed. Certainly wouldn't hurt to use it though.

I got my update over a month ago. I have had to factory reset twice since then. It was very large and some apps, such as Netflix, stuttered and didn't work altogether. It works like a dream now.
