Help Prevail pop3 email setup

I'm trying to set up a pop3 email account on my Prevail. Cannot get past incoming server check. i.e., once the pop.domain.com, username, password, and security questions are answered, an attempt is made to access the pop server. It comes back "unable to access server". I know that I'm using the correct settings because it works doing the same thing on my laptop. Also am able to log in to the pop3 server using webmail from the Prevail. Note that I would like to use an app like K9 rather than webmail which is cumbersome on the phone. Also would prefer not using gmail forwarding, which has been suggested. Any suggestions?

Hi,

My guess is, that the problem is the "security question" ! Not sure which e-mail client you're using on your notebook, but I run K9 on the Prevail with like 3 different mail accounts on different servers and don't have any trouble. Is the server you are on requiring the "security question" ????? In any case, you might need to look for an app which supports the "security question" option !!

Also, you might want to check in your notbook's mail client for the POP and SMTP ports, you would need to put them in as well.........

Hope this helps.

I use the stock email app and I've never had a problem accessing my accounts. If you do not have capitalized letters, make sure that that your user name and password are not capitalizing when you type them.

Thank you both for replies. vce2005, I was wondering the same thing. That is, whether or not the security questions are hanging me up. My pop mail provider states that SSL and TLS need to be disabled, so when the question comes up for security type I answer none. Not sure what else I can do to ensure that security isn't the issue. I think I'll try K9 and see if by maybe the setup gets me past this issue. Thanks wetbiker7, I have tried several times and am quite sure I have been using the correct upper and lower case letters for username and password. One question regarding the stock email app. I have the gmail app configured. Do I need to delete gmail before I use either G9 or the stock email app? Thanks for your help

Hi,

you don't need to uninstall the regular Gmail app if you want to use K9...... However, not sure who your provider is, but you can PM me and tell me your providers name and I can maybe find out the correct settings....... I do domain setup for a long time, but it's fairly uncommon to have to enter a security question before accessing e-mail........ In my opinion, it's either a PORT issue or a SSL issue. Sometimes, if a host does not use SSL, they put their mailservers on a different port, I do that too in some cases.

Well, let me know.

As vce said, you do not need to remove the Gmail app although I do because I usually have issues with it. It doesn't like to let me know when an email comes in a lot of the time. LOL I've got several email accounts synced with Gmail and use the stock email app to access Gmail. It works nicely for me. Hope you get your problem fixed. :)
